Tour Overview
Six kilometres of Bern's covered medieval Gothic arcades empty at seven in the morning before any shop opens, Lucerne's Chapel Bridge in dawn silence, and Harder Kulm at sunset over Lake Thun and Lake Brienz — budget solo Switzerland seven days self-directed through Swiss rail.
A 6-day solo Switzerland package from India - two nights in Zurich and three in Lucerne, in private single rooms at well-run hostels, with every train and excursion ticket bought before you fly. Best from May to September, when the lake steamers run their full schedule, and both summit railways are open.
Travelling alone in Switzerland usually costs more per person, not less, because a single room here runs at about 70 to 75 per cent of a double rather than half. This package works around that rather than pretending it away: hostel private rooms instead of hotel singles, point-to-point tickets instead of a rail pass, and two bases an hour apart so nothing is spent on long transfers. What that buys back is a private room every night, two proper mountain days, and evenings in places where solo travellers actually meet people.

DAY 01
Arrive Zurich
Airport train to the city - 10 min - Old Town eveningZURICH
Arrive Zurich
Airport train to the city - 10 min - Old Town evening
- ARRIVAL
- The train station sits directly beneath Zurich Airport arrivals. Ten minutes to the city centre, no shuttle and nobody to find.
- CHECK-IN
- Two nights in a private single room at a central Zurich hostel. Your own room, your own key, common room downstairs.
- EVENING
- The Niederdorf lanes and the Lindenhof terrace, which gives you the whole Old Town in one view for nothing.
- SOLO NOTE
- Zurich is one of the easiest European cities to arrive into alone - everything is walkable, English is widely spoken, and the streets stay busy well into the evening.
Central Zurich Hostel - Private Single
2 nights - Own room - Breakfast - Walk to the Old Town
- What you get A private single room with your own key, not a dorm bed. Bathroom may be private or shared depending on the property - this is stated in your quotation.
- Why a hostel A budget hotel single costs more and gives you an empty corridor. A hostel private gives you the same privacy plus a common room and kitchen, which is where solo travellers actually meet people.
- Bring A travel towel. Most Swiss hostels charge for towel hire even in private rooms.
Zurich Airport to City
Direct train - 10 min
- At the airport The station is directly under arrivals. Escalator down, platform, done - nothing to find and nobody to wait for.
- Frequency Trains to the main station every few minutes from early morning until past midnight.
- Ticket Included, bought in advance and issued before you fly.
Rhine Falls with Rock Boat (Included)
Europe's largest waterfall by volume - Middle rock climb
- Included Return rail from Zurich plus the boat out to the middle rock, where stairs are cut into the stone and you stand in the middle of the falls.
- Best angles Schloss Laufen viewing platforms on the south bank are the closest you get without the boat, and they are included in the same ticket.
- Season Boats run roughly April to October. Outside that the falls are still open and free to view from the platforms.

- MORNING
- Zurich to Schloss Laufen am Rheinfall, about fifty minutes. The train stops directly at the falls - there is no transfer to arrange.
- RHINE FALL

- Coop and Migros at the main station are open late and on Sundays, when almost nothing else in Zurich is. Useful to know on day two.
Central Lucerne Hostel - Private Single
3 nights - Own room - Breakfast - Walk to the lake
- What you get Three nights in a private single, central enough that the station, the steamer quay and the old town are all on foot.
- Why central matters here Both summit days start from the quay outside Lucerne station. A cheaper property further out would cost you back in local fares and early mornings.
- Guest kitchen Most Lucerne hostels have one, which makes a real difference to what a week here costs you in food.
Zurich to Lucerne
Direct - 1 hr - Hourly
- Route Direct intercity service, no change, roughly hourly through the day.
- No reservation Swiss intercity trains do not need seat bookings. Turn up, board, sit down.
- On arrival The lake, the Chapel Bridge and the steamer quay all start at the station forecourt, which is useful when you are carrying everything yourself.
Mt Pilatus Golden Round Trip (Included)
Steamer - 48 per cent cogwheel - Aerial cableway - 2,132m
- The loop Lake steamer to Alpnachstad, cogwheel railway to Pilatus Kulm at 2,132m, then cable car and gondola down to Kriens. Every leg included.

Full policy details
Cancellation Policy
- 10 or more calendar days before departure: a 30% cancellation charge applies to the eligible package amount. Choose a 70% refund in USDC or 100% of the eligible amount as Atravelx Travel Credit.
- Less than 10 calendar days before departure: 100% non-refundable. No refund or Travel Credit is ordinarily issued.
- After travel commences, or no-show: non-refundable. No refund or Travel Credit is ordinarily available.
- Days are counted as calendar days to the scheduled departure date, in UTC (Coordinated Universal Time). The timestamp on your written request fixes when Atravelx received it.
- Cancellation requests must be made in writing through an authorised Atravelx channel: your concierge, info@atravelx.com or WhatsApp +91 92500 00511. A phone call alone does not cancel a booking until it is confirmed in writing.
- Quote the booking reference, the lead traveller's name and the services affected. Atravelx may ask for identity or payment verification before acting on a request.
- A reason is not needed to qualify under the 10-day window.
- Cancelling some travellers, rooms, nights or services is a package amendment, not a cancellation. It does not qualify for the 10-day refund or credit on its own, and it can change the per-person price for the remaining travellers.
Atravelx Travel Credit
- Travel Credit is issued as an Atravelx Credit Note for 100% of the eligible amount actually paid, denominated in USDC.
- The 30% cancellation charge is waived when you choose Travel Credit instead of a refund.
- Credit can be used towards any eligible service booked through Atravelx: holiday packages, stays, flights, transfers, sightseeing, car rental, visa assistance and other eligible services.
- Travel Credit is non-cash. It cannot be withdrawn, exchanged for cryptocurrency or fiat currency, or transferred to another person, unless Atravelx agrees in writing.
- The validity period and expiry date are stated on the Credit Note.
- Prices at the time of the new booking apply. Travel Credit does not hold the same hotel, room, destination, dates, itinerary, supplier, activity, package or price.
- If the new booking costs more, you pay the difference in USDC. If it costs less, the balance stays on the Credit Note under its terms.
- Once you choose Travel Credit, the choice is final. It is not later converted into a refund.
Date Change Policy
- Request date changes 10 or more calendar days before the scheduled departure date.
- A date change is not guaranteed. It depends on hotel, transfer and activity availability, supplier approval, revised room rates, seasonal pricing, blackout dates, peak-season supplements, transport costs, fare differences, supplier amendment charges and revised itinerary costs.
- If the revised package costs more, you pay the difference in USDC. Supplier amendment or date-change charges may also apply.
- A date change is confirmed only when Atravelx confirms the revised arrangements in writing.
- Requests made less than 10 calendar days before departure depend on supplier approval and cannot be guaranteed.
- A postponement or date change is not a cancellation. It does not by itself create a refund or Travel Credit entitlement.
Bundled Holiday Packages
- Atravelx holiday packages are booked and priced as bundled travel arrangements made up of several interconnected services.
- Individual components of a confirmed package cannot ordinarily be cancelled separately.
- Removing a service does not automatically entitle you to a proportionate refund or Travel Credit.
- Any request to remove, replace or modify a component is treated as a package amendment, subject to supplier approval, availability, revised pricing, amounts recoverable and applicable charges.
- A value shown against an individual service does not mean it was separately contracted or can be independently cancelled.
Visa & Travel Documentation
- Travellers are responsible for a valid passport, the right visa, transit visas, entry permits, immigration documents, health documentation and any other paperwork required by the destination or a transit country.
- Visa decisions are made solely by the relevant government, embassy, consulate or immigration authority. Atravelx does not guarantee approval, processing time or appointment availability.
- A visa refusal, delay or failure to obtain a visa does not override the cancellation conditions unless Atravelx confirms otherwise in writing.
- Government, embassy, visa application centre, biometric, courier and processing fees may be non-refundable once paid or submitted.
Refund Processing & Timeline
- Atravelx acknowledges a cancellation request within 2 working days. Acknowledgement confirms receipt, not eligibility or amount. After reviewing the booking, Atravelx confirms in writing which services are cancelled, the refundable and non-refundable components, the deductions and the refund amount.
- Approved refunds are processed within 45 working days from the date Atravelx confirms in writing that the refund is approved.
- The 45 days do not run from the booking date, the date you first asked to cancel, or the departure date.
- Working days exclude Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays in the United States and India.
- Refunds are calculated and paid in USDC. The refund is the eligible package amount in USDC as shown on your invoice, less the cancellation charge and any supplier deductions.
- If you paid in another cryptocurrency, the refund is still the USDC value of the eligible amount at the time of payment, not the number of coins you sent. Atravelx is not liable for changes in the market value of any coin between payment and refund.
- Refunds are sent to the wallet address the payment came from, on the same network. If that is not possible, you may nominate another wallet, which Atravelx verifies in writing before sending. Atravelx is not responsible for funds sent to a wallet address you supplied incorrectly.
- If you paid by card or bank transfer through an Atravelx payment partner, the refund goes back to that payment method where the partner supports it. Otherwise another method is agreed in writing.
- Blockchain confirmations, payment partners, card issuers and banks may add time before the funds show in your wallet or account.
- Where Atravelx cancels a confirmed booking for reasons within its reasonable control, all amounts received for the cancelled services are refunded in full, initiated within 7 working days. An alternative itinerary or Travel Credit may be offered, but you are not required to accept it instead of the refund.
- An approved refund is not replaced with Travel Credit unless you expressly agree, or the supplier itself provides only a credit or voucher under conditions disclosed before booking.
Supplier-Specific & Non-Refundable Services
- Certain services carry their own cancellation, refund or amendment terms: airline tickets, visa fees, embassy, consulate and visa-centre charges, travel insurance, rail tickets and passes, cruise and ferry bookings, event, concert, sports and attraction tickets, special-event bookings, non-refundable hotel rates, supplier deposits and any service identified as non-refundable.
- Where supplier-specific conditions were communicated in the quotation, invoice, voucher, booking confirmation or service conditions before payment, those conditions apply to that service.
- Blockchain network fees paid when you sent your payment are not part of the package amount and are not refundable.
No-Show, Unused & Partially Used Services
- No refund or Travel Credit is ordinarily provided for: no-shows, cancellation after travel has commenced, voluntarily unused services, partly completed holidays, missed hotel nights, missed transfers, missed activities or sightseeing, missed trains or other transport, traveller delays, failure to report at the required time, services missed because of documentation issues, or services missed for reasons attributable to the traveller.
- If a supplier voluntarily approves a refund in an exceptional case, Atravelx passes on the recoverable amount in USDC under the applicable supplier and booking conditions.
Booking Acceptance
- By confirming a booking and making payment, you accept the cancellation, refund, date-change, bundled-package and Travel Credit conditions in this policy.
- Conditions stated in writing for an individual booking (quotation, invoice, voucher or booking confirmation) supplement this policy. Where a supplier's terms are stricter and were disclosed before payment, they apply to that service.
- A booking is governed by the version of this policy shown on the package page on the booking date, unless a later version is more favourable to you or Atravelx agrees otherwise in writing.
- For events beyond Atravelx's reasonable control (severe weather, natural disasters, epidemics, war, civil unrest, strikes, government restrictions, border or airport closures, supplier insolvency and similar), refunds, credits, postponements or alternatives depend on the affected supplier's policy and the amounts recoverable. Atravelx helps coordinate with the suppliers.
- Nothing in this policy restricts any statutory right available to a consumer under applicable law.
Frequently asked questions
Why does travelling alone cost more per person, not less?
Because a Swiss single room costs roughly 70 to 75 per cent of a double, not half. Two people sharing split that cost; alone, you pay it all. The same applies to nothing else on this trip - your train ticket and your summit ticket cost exactly what anyone else pays. To put a number on it, two people twin-sharing this identical itinerary would each pay noticeably less than this price. We would rather say that plainly than let you find out when you compare quotes.
Is it a dorm or a real private room?
A real private room, with your own key. Nobody else is in it. What varies by property is the bathroom - some private rooms have an ensuite, others use a shared bathroom in the corridor, and your quotation states which one you are getting before you pay. If you want an ensuite specifically, say so at enquiry, and we will price the properties that have them.
Why hostels and not a budget hotel?
Two reasons, and the second matters more than people expect. First, a Swiss budget hotel single costs more than a hostel private room, and it's smaller. Second, a hotel corridor at 8 PM on a solo trip is a lonely place - a hostel has a common room and a kitchen where people actually talk to each other. You get the privacy of a hotel room and the company of a hostel, which is the combination most solo travellers are looking for. If you would still rather have a hotel, we will quote that as an upgrade.
Is Switzerland safe for solo travellers, including women?
It is among the safest countries in Europe for solo travel, and both cities on this route are small, well-lit and busy in the evening. Trains run on time, and stations are staffed. Normal precautions apply as anywhere. Several hostels offer female-only floors or wings, and we request one at no extra cost if you ask at booking. Your WhatsApp support line is live for the whole trip, which is worth having when you're travelling alone.
Two summits on a budget package - how does that work?
Pilatus and Rigi together still cost less than a single Jungfraujoch ticket, and the Rigi ticket is a day pass that covers the whole mountain rather than one ride up and down. They are also genuinely different days: Pilatus is the engineering one, with a lake steamer and the steepest cogwheel railway in the world, and Rigi is the gentle one, with ridge walks you can do in ordinary shoes and a boat back across the lake. Neither requires any hiking.
What will I actually spend on food?
Breakfast is covered on all five mornings. Beyond that, Switzerland is expensive to eat out in, but Coop and Migros supermarkets are not - a proper meal from their hot counters costs a fraction of a restaurant, and most of the hostels on this route have guest kitchens. Carrying lunch up a mountain is normal here, not cheap. Travellers who eat sensibly, rather than at summit restaurants, generally find food adds a manageable daily amount; we will give you a realistic figure with your quotation.
Six days seem short. Is it enough for Switzerland?
This is enough for this slice, which is the point. Zurich and Lucerne are an hour apart, both small enough to learn in a day, and both summits are day trips from one base. What you are not doing is Zermatt, the Jungfrau region or the Engadin - those need more days and more money. If you have the time and budget, tell us, and we will quote a longer route rather than squeeze more into six days.
Do I need a Schengen visa, and is it harder to get travelling alone?
Indian passport holders need a Schengen (Type-C) visa. Travelling alone does not make refusal more likely, but consulates do look for a clear, funded, return-oriented application - confirmed accommodation, return flight, bank statements, and compliant travel insurance. We provide the checklist and assistance. Apply six to eight weeks ahead; summer VFS slots fill up. The fee and VFS charges are excluded, and the consulate makes the final approval decision.
When is the best time for this route?
May to September. The Pilatus cogwheel section runs roughly May to November; the lake steamers are on a full schedule; the Musegg Wall towers are open; and evenings stay light past nine. May and September are cheaper and quieter, with the same experience. In winter, the Pilatus loop reverses to cable car only, the Rhine Falls boats stop, and a route built around lakes and open-air summits loses a lot of what makes it worth doing.
Can I add days, add a summit or upgrade the rooms?
All three. The most common changes are adding Mt. Titlis with an extra night in Lucerne, extending to Interlaken for two nights, and moving some or all nights from a hostel private to a 3-star hotel single. We re-quote every change before you confirm, so you can see the difference in writing rather than guess at it.
