Tour Overview
Eleven days, five activities, two glacier summits: paraglide over Interlaken's two lakes, stand on Jungfraujoch's Aletsch Glacier at three thousand four hundred and fifty-four metres, via ferrata the Eiger cliff face, reach Matterhorn Glacier Paradise on Europe's highest cable car at three thousand eight hundred and eighty-three metres, then cross the Alps by Glacier Express.
An 8-day adventure Switzerland package from India built around doing rather than looking - one night in Zurich, three in Engelberg under Mt Titlis, and three in Lugano in Italian-speaking Ticino, linked by the Gotthard Panorama Express. Best from late June to mid-September, when both canyoning operators are running their full season.
Most Switzerland itineraries sold from India are a sequence of cable cars and viewing platforms. This one has two days where you are in a wetsuit working down a gorge with a licensed guide - one alpine canyon in the Engelberg valley, cold and granite, and one Mediterranean canyon in the Verzasca, warmer and pale-rocked. Neither needs previous experience or your own equipment. Ticino also gives the trip something no other Swiss route has: palm trees, Italian on the street signs, and river water clear enough to see the bed from a bridge.

Itinerary — day by day
ZurichEngelbergLuganoDeparture
DAY 01
Arrive Zurich
Airport train - 10 min - Old Town and the riverZURICH
Arrive Zurich
Airport train - 10 min - Old Town and the river
- ARRIVAL
- The station sits directly beneath Zurich Airport arrivals. Ten minutes to the city centre on your pass.
- CHECK-IN
- One night in central Zurich. Deliberately just one - this trip is not about cities, and the real days start tomorrow.
- AFTERNOON
- The Niederdorf lanes and the Limmat quays, all on foot. Nothing ticketed, nothing scheduled.
- TONIGHT
- Your canyoning vouchers, medical declaration forms and operator contacts are already in your documents pack. Read the kit list before you sleep.
Central Zurich Hotel
1 night - Double bed - Breakfast - City centre
- Stay A single arrival night at a comfortable 3-star in central Zurich, walking distance from the station.
- Why only one The money in this package belongs in the activities, not in city hotel nights. One night is enough to sleep off the flight.
- Note The confirmed property is named on your quotation. If it is unavailable for your dates, an equivalent Zurich 3-star is offered before you pay.
Zurich Airport to City
Direct train - 10 min
- At the airport The station is directly under arrivals. Escalator down, platform, done.
- Frequency Trains every few minutes from early morning until past midnight.
- Private car option Available as an add-on if you land late or want a car after a long flight. Quoted separately.
The Verzasca Valley (Included Transfer, Free to Visit)
Lavertezzo - Corippo - The dam crest
- What is included The return transfer from Lugano. The valley itself - the bridge, the swimming, the village and the dam crest - has no entry fee and never has.
- Lavertezzo A double-arched stone bridge over water clear enough to see the bed from above. Often called the Roman bridge; it dates from the 1600s.
- The dam 220 metres, the GoldenEye wall, and you can walk out across the crest for nothing.
- Swimming is at your own risk There are no lifeguards in the Verzasca, the water is cold all summer and the current is stronger than it looks. Nobody supervises this and we will not pretend otherwise.
DAY 02
Zurich to Engelberg
1 hr 30 min - Brunni cable car - Three nights beginENGELBERG
Zurich to Engelberg
1 hr 30 min - Brunni cable car - Three nights begin
- CHECK-IN
- Three nights in Engelberg at 1,015m, a working village with a Benedictine monastery in the middle of it rather than a resort built for tourists.
- EVENING
- The riverside path back into the village, and an early night. Tomorrow is the first canyon.
- RAIL
- Zurich to Lucerne, then the Zentralbahn up the valley to Engelberg. About ninety minutes with one cross-platform change.
- AFTERNOON
- The Brunni cable car to Ristis on the sunny side of the valley - an easy first afternoon at altitude with Titlis facing you across the valley. Included.
Engelberg Village Hotel
3 nights - Double bed - Breakfast - Under Mt Titlis
- Stay Three nights in the village, close to both the Titlis base station and the canyoning operator's meeting point.
- Drying room We book properties that have one. After a canyon day this matters more than the room category does, and it is a question most agencies never think to ask.
- Note Engelberg is a small village with a limited hotel stock in peak summer. Your confirmed property is named on the quotation.
Zurich to Engelberg
Via Lucerne - 1 hr 30 min - One change
- Route Zurich to Lucerne on an intercity, then the Zentralbahn narrow-gauge line up to Engelberg. One cross-platform change, roughly hourly.
- The climb The last stretch into Engelberg runs through a rack-and-pinion tunnel and comes out under the Titlis massif.
- No reservation Neither leg needs a seat booking.
Two Guided Canyoning Days (Included)
Engelberg granite and Verzasca slides - Gear provided
- Engelberg, Day 3 Alpine canyon - cold water, granite walls, abseils and jumps. Half day, guided.
- Verzasca, Day 7 Mediterranean canyon - warmer water, pale smooth rock, long natural slides. Half day, guided.
- Included both days Licensed guide, wetsuit, helmet, harness and canyoning shoes. You bring swimwear and a towel.
- Fitness and health Beginner grade, and you must be able to swim. Operators set their own minimum age and health rules and apply them on the day - tell us about any heart condition, recent surgery, back or neck injury or pregnancy at enquiry rather than at the meeting point.
DAY 03
Canyoning in the Engelberg Valley
Guided half day - Wetsuit and gear included - No experience neededENGELBERG
Canyoning in the Engelberg Valley
Guided half day - Wetsuit and gear included - No experience needed
- THE CANYON
- A granite gorge in the Engelberg valley - abseils, natural water slides and jumps into pools, working downstream with a licensed guide.
- WHAT YOU GET
- Wetsuit, helmet, harness and shoes are all provided by the operator. You bring swimwear and a towel.
- BEGINNERS
- This is a beginner-grade canyon. You need to be able to swim and be reasonably fit; you do not need any technical skill. Every jump has a walk-around option.
- AFTERNOON
- Free in the village once you are dry. Most people do very little, which is the correct decision.
Lugano City Hotel
3 nights - Double bed - Breakfast - Near the lake
- Stay Three nights in Lugano, central for the station, the lake promenade and the Monte Bre funicular.
- Why Lugano and not Locarno Locarno is marginally closer to the Verzasca valley, but Lugano has the direct three-hour train to Zurich Airport on your last morning, which is worth more than twenty minutes on two activity days.
- Note Both Verzasca days include the transfer out to the valley and back, so a lake-side base costs you nothing in convenience.
Gotthard Panorama Express
Engelberg to Lugano - Steamer plus panoramic train - Seat reserved
- Boat leg A historic paddle steamer the full length of Lake Lucerne to Fluelen, around three hours.
- Train leg Panoramic carriages over the 1882 Gotthard mountain line, with the spiral tunnels and the Wassen church loops, down into Ticino.
- Reservation Compulsory on both legs, pre-booked and issued with your documents. Seat position is set by the operator.
Mt Titlis, Brunni & Monte Bre (Included)
3,020m Rotair - Cliff Walk - Glacier Cave - Ice Flyer
- Mt Titlis Return to 3,020m including the Rotair rotating cable car, the Cliff Walk suspension bridge, the Glacier Cave and the Ice Flyer chairlift. Included.
- Brunni The cable car to Ristis on the opposite side of the valley, for your arrival afternoon. Included.
- Monte Bre One of the steepest funiculars in Switzerland, from Lugano, covered by your pass on your last evening.
- Weather All three are cable-car dependent and close occasionally for high wind. If one is shut, it moves to another day of your stay or is refunded.
DAY 04
Mt Titlis - Rotair, Cliff Walk & Glacier Cave
3,020m - World's first rotating cable car - Full dayENGELBERG
Mt Titlis - Rotair, Cliff Walk & Glacier Cave
3,020m - World's first rotating cable car - Full day
- THE CLIMB
- Three stages from the village, finishing on the Rotair - the first rotating cable car built anywhere, which turns a full circle as it crosses the glacier.
- CLIFF WALK
- Europe's highest suspension bridge, a hundred metres long with a five-hundred-metre drop under it. Short, and not optional if you came here for adventure.
- GLACIER CAVE
- A tunnel cut into the ice below the station, ten metres under the glacier surface and open year round.
- ICE FLYER
- The open chairlift out over the glacier crevasses is included with your Titlis ticket - most people miss it because it is signposted badly.
Lugano to the Verzasca Valley
Days 6 and 7 - Transfer included both days
- Day 6 Transfer out to Lavertezzo and back, with stops at Corippo and the dam crest. You are not working out bus timetables in a mountain valley.
- Day 7 Transfer to the canyoning meeting point and back, arranged with the operator.
- Timing About an hour each way. Morning departures on both days.
DAY 05
Gotthard Panorama Express to Lugano
Lake steamer plus panoramic train - Over the old Gotthard lineLUGANO
Gotthard Panorama Express to Lugano
Lake steamer plus panoramic train - Over the old Gotthard line
- EVENING
- Arrive Lugano for three nights. Palm trees, Italian on the street signs and a completely different country by dinner.
- MORNING
- Down to Lucerne, then a historic paddle steamer the length of Lake Lucerne to Fluelen. Around three hours on the water, and the better half of the day.
- AFTERNOON
- The panoramic train from Fluelen over the original 1882 Gotthard mountain line - the one with the spiral tunnels, not the modern base tunnel underneath it.
- THE WASSEN CHURCH
- The line loops so tightly that the same church appears three times from three different heights. It is the most photographed thing on the route.
Lugano to Zurich Airport
Direct - 3 hrs - Gotthard base tunnel
- Route Direct Lugano to Zurich Airport, about three hours, through the 57-kilometre Gotthard base tunnel. Hourly.
- Buffer Leave Lugano around 8 AM for an afternoon flight. This is the longest single leg of the trip, so aim for a departure after 4 PM.
- Early flights An airport-side Zurich night the evening before is the sensible fix. Quoted on request.
DAY 06
The Verzasca Valley
Lavertezzo - Corippo - A walk across the dam crestLUGANO
The Verzasca Valley
Lavertezzo - Corippo - A walk across the dam crest
- LAVERTEZZO
- A double-arched stone bridge over water so clear the riverbed is visible from above. Locals call it the Roman bridge; it actually dates from the 1600s. Swimming off the rocks is free and is what the whole valley is known for.
- CORIPPO
- One of the smallest municipalities in Switzerland - a handful of permanent residents and a hillside of stone houses, protected as a heritage site. Twenty minutes up the valley and worth the stop.
- THE VERZASCA DAM
- The 220-metre wall from the opening scene of GoldenEye. You can walk out across the crest and look straight down it, which costs nothing.
- BEING STRAIGHT ABOUT THIS DAY
- Nothing on it is a paid ticket, and that is deliberate. The valley is free to visit and keeping it that way is part of why this package sits where it does on price.
DAY 07
Canyoning in the Verzasca Valley
Guided half day - Warmer water, pale granite - Monte Bre eveningLUGANO
Canyoning in the Verzasca Valley
Guided half day - Warmer water, pale granite - Monte Bre evening
- EVENING
- The Monte Bre funicular from Lugano, one of the steepest in Switzerland, for the lake from above at the end of your last full day. Covered by your pass.
- The canyon: The Verzasca is a completely different experience to Engelberg - pale smooth granite, warmer water and long natural slides rather than cold alpine jumps.
- WHAT YOU GET
- Guide, wetsuit, helmet, harness and shoes, as on Day 3. Beginner grade again.
- LAST NIGHT
- Lugano old town is Italian in every way that matters, and this is the evening to use it.
DAY 08
Lugano to Zurich Airport
Direct through the Gotthard base tunnel - 3 hrsDEPARTURE
Lugano to Zurich Airport
Direct through the Gotthard base tunnel - 3 hrs
- BREAKFAST
- At the hotel - the seventh and last one.
- RAIL
- Lugano direct to Zurich Airport, about three hours, through the Gotthard base tunnel - the longest rail tunnel in the world at 57 kilometres.
- TIMING
- This is a three-hour leg, so plan a departure after 4 PM and leave Lugano around 8 AM. Trains run hourly.
- EARLY FLIGHTS
- For a morning departure we add an airport-side Zurich night the evening before. Quoted on request.

Full policy details
Cancellation Policy
- 10 or more calendar days before departure: a 30% cancellation charge applies to the eligible package amount. Choose a 70% refund in USDC or 100% of the eligible amount as Atravelx Travel Credit.
- Less than 10 calendar days before departure: 100% non-refundable. No refund or Travel Credit is ordinarily issued.
- After travel commences, or no-show: non-refundable. No refund or Travel Credit is ordinarily available.
- Days are counted as calendar days to the scheduled departure date, in UTC (Coordinated Universal Time). The timestamp on your written request fixes when Atravelx received it.
- Cancellation requests must be made in writing through an authorised Atravelx channel: your concierge, info@atravelx.com or WhatsApp +91 92500 00511. A phone call alone does not cancel a booking until it is confirmed in writing.
- Quote the booking reference, the lead traveller's name and the services affected. Atravelx may ask for identity or payment verification before acting on a request.
- A reason is not needed to qualify under the 10-day window.
- Cancelling some travellers, rooms, nights or services is a package amendment, not a cancellation. It does not qualify for the 10-day refund or credit on its own, and it can change the per-person price for the remaining travellers.
Atravelx Travel Credit
- Travel Credit is issued as an Atravelx Credit Note for 100% of the eligible amount actually paid, denominated in USDC.
- The 30% cancellation charge is waived when you choose Travel Credit instead of a refund.
- Credit can be used towards any eligible service booked through Atravelx: holiday packages, stays, flights, transfers, sightseeing, car rental, visa assistance and other eligible services.
- Travel Credit is non-cash. It cannot be withdrawn, exchanged for cryptocurrency or fiat currency, or transferred to another person, unless Atravelx agrees in writing.
- The validity period and expiry date are stated on the Credit Note.
- Prices at the time of the new booking apply. Travel Credit does not hold the same hotel, room, destination, dates, itinerary, supplier, activity, package or price.
- If the new booking costs more, you pay the difference in USDC. If it costs less, the balance stays on the Credit Note under its terms.
- Once you choose Travel Credit, the choice is final. It is not later converted into a refund.
Date Change Policy
- Request date changes 10 or more calendar days before the scheduled departure date.
- A date change is not guaranteed. It depends on hotel, transfer and activity availability, supplier approval, revised room rates, seasonal pricing, blackout dates, peak-season supplements, transport costs, fare differences, supplier amendment charges and revised itinerary costs.
- If the revised package costs more, you pay the difference in USDC. Supplier amendment or date-change charges may also apply.
- A date change is confirmed only when Atravelx confirms the revised arrangements in writing.
- Requests made less than 10 calendar days before departure depend on supplier approval and cannot be guaranteed.
- A postponement or date change is not a cancellation. It does not by itself create a refund or Travel Credit entitlement.
Bundled Holiday Packages
- Atravelx holiday packages are booked and priced as bundled travel arrangements made up of several interconnected services.
- Individual components of a confirmed package cannot ordinarily be cancelled separately.
- Removing a service does not automatically entitle you to a proportionate refund or Travel Credit.
- Any request to remove, replace or modify a component is treated as a package amendment, subject to supplier approval, availability, revised pricing, amounts recoverable and applicable charges.
- A value shown against an individual service does not mean it was separately contracted or can be independently cancelled.
Visa & Travel Documentation
- Travellers are responsible for a valid passport, the right visa, transit visas, entry permits, immigration documents, health documentation and any other paperwork required by the destination or a transit country.
- Visa decisions are made solely by the relevant government, embassy, consulate or immigration authority. Atravelx does not guarantee approval, processing time or appointment availability.
- A visa refusal, delay or failure to obtain a visa does not override the cancellation conditions unless Atravelx confirms otherwise in writing.
- Government, embassy, visa application centre, biometric, courier and processing fees may be non-refundable once paid or submitted.
Refund Processing & Timeline
- Atravelx acknowledges a cancellation request within 2 working days. Acknowledgement confirms receipt, not eligibility or amount. After reviewing the booking, Atravelx confirms in writing which services are cancelled, the refundable and non-refundable components, the deductions and the refund amount.
- Approved refunds are processed within 45 working days from the date Atravelx confirms in writing that the refund is approved.
- The 45 days do not run from the booking date, the date you first asked to cancel, or the departure date.
- Working days exclude Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays in the United States and India.
- Refunds are calculated and paid in USDC. The refund is the eligible package amount in USDC as shown on your invoice, less the cancellation charge and any supplier deductions.
- If you paid in another cryptocurrency, the refund is still the USDC value of the eligible amount at the time of payment, not the number of coins you sent. Atravelx is not liable for changes in the market value of any coin between payment and refund.
- Refunds are sent to the wallet address the payment came from, on the same network. If that is not possible, you may nominate another wallet, which Atravelx verifies in writing before sending. Atravelx is not responsible for funds sent to a wallet address you supplied incorrectly.
- If you paid by card or bank transfer through an Atravelx payment partner, the refund goes back to that payment method where the partner supports it. Otherwise another method is agreed in writing.
- Blockchain confirmations, payment partners, card issuers and banks may add time before the funds show in your wallet or account.
- Where Atravelx cancels a confirmed booking for reasons within its reasonable control, all amounts received for the cancelled services are refunded in full, initiated within 7 working days. An alternative itinerary or Travel Credit may be offered, but you are not required to accept it instead of the refund.
- An approved refund is not replaced with Travel Credit unless you expressly agree, or the supplier itself provides only a credit or voucher under conditions disclosed before booking.
Supplier-Specific & Non-Refundable Services
- Certain services carry their own cancellation, refund or amendment terms: airline tickets, visa fees, embassy, consulate and visa-centre charges, travel insurance, rail tickets and passes, cruise and ferry bookings, event, concert, sports and attraction tickets, special-event bookings, non-refundable hotel rates, supplier deposits and any service identified as non-refundable.
- Where supplier-specific conditions were communicated in the quotation, invoice, voucher, booking confirmation or service conditions before payment, those conditions apply to that service.
- Blockchain network fees paid when you sent your payment are not part of the package amount and are not refundable.
No-Show, Unused & Partially Used Services
- No refund or Travel Credit is ordinarily provided for: no-shows, cancellation after travel has commenced, voluntarily unused services, partly completed holidays, missed hotel nights, missed transfers, missed activities or sightseeing, missed trains or other transport, traveller delays, failure to report at the required time, services missed because of documentation issues, or services missed for reasons attributable to the traveller.
- If a supplier voluntarily approves a refund in an exceptional case, Atravelx passes on the recoverable amount in USDC under the applicable supplier and booking conditions.
Booking Acceptance
- By confirming a booking and making payment, you accept the cancellation, refund, date-change, bundled-package and Travel Credit conditions in this policy.
- Conditions stated in writing for an individual booking (quotation, invoice, voucher or booking confirmation) supplement this policy. Where a supplier's terms are stricter and were disclosed before payment, they apply to that service.
- A booking is governed by the version of this policy shown on the package page on the booking date, unless a later version is more favourable to you or Atravelx agrees otherwise in writing.
- For events beyond Atravelx's reasonable control (severe weather, natural disasters, epidemics, war, civil unrest, strikes, government restrictions, border or airport closures, supplier insolvency and similar), refunds, credits, postponements or alternatives depend on the affected supplier's policy and the amounts recoverable. Atravelx helps coordinate with the suppliers.
- Nothing in this policy restricts any statutory right available to a consumer under applicable law.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need any experience for the canyoning?
No. Both canyons are beginner-grade and run with a licensed guide who takes you through every section. What you do need is to be able to swim, to be reasonably fit, and to be comfortable in cold water - the Engelberg canyon is genuinely cold even in August. We provide a wetsuit, helmet, harness, and canyoning shoes. Every jump in both canyons has a walk-around option, so nobody is forced to do anything.
Is the 220m bungee actually safe?
A licensed commercial operator runs it under Swiss safety regulations, with crew, documented equipment checks, and a signed health declaration for every jumper. That said, it is a genuine extreme sport, and we will not pretend otherwise. There are weight limits at both ends, and heart conditions, recent surgery, back or neck injuries and pregnancy all rule you out. Tell us any of that at enquiry rather than at the dam - being turned away on the day is the one outcome nobody can fix.
Why Ticino? I have never heard of it.
That is exactly the point of it. Ticino is the Italian-speaking canton south of the Alps - palm trees, Italian food, Italian street signs, and a completely different climate from the Switzerland most Indian travellers see. It is also home to the Verzasca Dam and the Verzasca Valley. Almost no Indian operator sells it because it does not fit into the standard Interlaken-Lucerne loop, which means you are somewhere your friends have not already photographed.
Does my travel insurance cover this?
Standard policies usually do not. Most Indian travel insurance excludes canyoning as a hazardous activity unless you buy an adventure-sports extension or a specialist policy. This is not optional on this package - an operator can refuse you at the meeting point without valid cover, and a claim on a standard policy after an incident will be rejected. We will tell you what to look for in the wording, but the policy is yours to buy, and we cannot buy it for you.
When can this trip actually run?
Late June to mid-September is the reliable window. Verzasca canyoning typically runs May to September only; the Engelberg canyon depends on snowmelt and water levels earlier in the season, and the dam jump has its own operating calendar. Before we take a booking, we confirm all three are running for your exact dates - if they are not, we say so rather than sell you a version of this trip with the adventure taken out of it.
How fit do I need to be?
Moderately. There is no long hiking and nothing technical. You need to be able to swim, walk on uneven wet rock, and manage a few short scrambles in a wetsuit. The Titlis day is entirely by cable car. If you can comfortably do a day of walking, you can do this trip. If you have a knee or shoulder problem, tell us - the operators will usually still take you, but they plan the route differently.
Is three nights in Engelberg too many?
It is deliberate, and it is the right number. One day is the canyon, one is Titlis, and the third exists so that if either is moved for weather, it has somewhere to go. Engelberg is also a working village with a monastery rather than a resort, so the evenings are quiet - which, after a canyon day, is what most people want. If you would rather have two nights and add one in Ticino, we will re-quote it.
Can we do this as a group of friends?
Yes, and it works well as a single activity. Both canyoning operators run small groups, and the bungee goes one at a time with everyone else watching, which is most of the entertainment. For groups of six or more, we request the same canyoning slot for everybody so you are not split across sessions, and we can quote twin or triple rooms instead of double beds. Tell us the group size at enquiry.
What do I actually need to pack?
For the activities, bring swimwear, a quick-dry towel, and old trainers you don't mind soaking. The operators provide a wetsuit, helmet, harness, and canyoning shoes, so you don't need to buy equipment. Beyond that, bring a warm layer for Titlis at 3,020 m, even in summer, and lighter clothing for Ticino, which is noticeably hotter than the rest of Switzerland. A full kit list goes out with your documents pack.
