Tour Overview

Switzerland on a backpacker budget means Swiss Half Fare Card not Swiss Travel Pass, Migros supermarket for lunch every day at nine francs, hostel dorms in Zurich and Bern, and free sites visited in the right order before the tour groups arrive.

A 7-day budget Switzerland tour package from India for people who want the mountains in the price and are happy to walk the towns for free - one night in Zurich on arrival, two in Lucerne and three in Interlaken, all on central 3-star hotels with a Swiss Half Fare Card. Best from May to September, when both summit lifts are on their full schedule.

This is the cheapest week we sell, and it is built that way on purpose. Two summits are included and paid for: Mt Titlis at 3,020m with the rotating cable car and the glacier cave, and Grindelwald First at 2,168m with the Cliff Walk. Everything else on the itinerary is free: the Lindenhof in Zurich, the Chapel Bridge and the Musegg Wall towers in Lucerne, the Hohematte in Interlaken, and the Staubbach Falls and the valley walk in Lauterbrunnen. The paid extras are listed with their prices on the Activities tab instead of being folded into the headline, and your rail card keeps them at half price if you decide to add one.

ZURICH
zurich

The Niederdorf lanes on the east bank, then the lake promenade at Burkliplatz. Also free.
AFTERNOON
The Lindenhof, a flat terrace on the hill in the middle of the old town that gives you the whole thing in one view. Free, and almost nobody goes up.
WHY ZURICH FIRST
You sleep off the flight in a city rather than arriving in the mountains tired, and the last three nights stay settled in Interlaken.

ICE FLYER
An open chairlift out over the glacier crevasses with nothing under your feet. Part of the same ticket, and the best thing up there.
AFTERNOON

Hotels

Central Interlaken, 3-Star

3 nights - Breakfast - Near Interlaken Ost

  • Stay Three of the six nights in a central 3-star, within walking distance of Interlaken Ost.
  • Why three nights The Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen days both leave from Interlaken Ost, so two days out come from the same room and nothing needs packing in between.
  • Meals here Breakfast all three mornings. No dinner is included - Interlaken has a supermarket by the station and plenty of cheap places, and a dinner can be added on request.
  • Note Interlaken rooms sell out early for July and August. Your confirmed property and room category are stated in writing on your quotation before you pay.
Transfers

Lucerne to Interlaken Ost

Luzern-Interlaken Express - 2 hrs - Brunig Pass

  • Route Over the Brunig Pass, past Lake Sarnen and Lake Lungern, about two hours with no change.
  • A scenic leg you do not pay extra for This is one of Switzerland's named scenic routes and it is also the ordinary way between the two towns. No supplement, no reservation.
  • Frequency Roughly hourly, so no fixed departure to be tied to on a moving day.
  • Luggage Rack space in every carriage. Station-to-station forwarding can be added if you would rather send bags ahead. Quoted separately.

DAY 04

INTERLAKEN
Harder Kulm Switzerland
CHECK-IN
Three nights in Interlaken, the longest stay of the trip, walking distance from Interlaken Ost.

SCENIC RAIL
The Luzern-Interlaken Express over the Brunig Pass, with Lake Lungern below it. Two hours, no reservation, no supplement - a named scenic route that happens to be the ordinary way between your two bases.
AFTERNOON
The Hohematte, a protected meadow kept clear of buildings in the middle of town so the Jungfrau stays in view. Paragliders land on it through the afternoon. Free.

INTERLAKEN
Grindelwald by train
GETTING THERE
Thirty-five minutes by train to Grindelwald, then the gondola to First at 2,168m. Included.

BACHALPSEE

Transfers

Interlaken to Zurich Airport

2 hrs 15 min - One change at Zurich main station

  • Route Interlaken Ost to Zurich main station via Bern, then ten minutes to the airport, arriving under the terminal.
  • Buffer Allow five hours from the hotel. This is the longest departure leg of our Swiss routes, which is the trade-off for three settled nights in Interlaken.
  • Early departure For a flight before 10 AM, a last night in Zurich instead of Interlaken works better. Quoted separately.
  • Late flight If you leave in the evening, ask about a late check-out. It is requested with the hotel rather than confirmed here.

DAY 06

Lauterbrunnen Valley & Trümmelbach Falls

72 waterfalls · Ten falls inside a mountain · Dinner tonight
INTERLAKEN
Lauterbrunnen Valley switzerland
MORNING
Twenty minutes by train from Interlaken Ost into Lauterbrunnen - a flat-floored valley with vertical rock on both sides and seventy-two waterfalls coming off the walls. Rail included.
STAUBBACH FALLS
Nearly 300m in a single drop, straight off the cliff above the village. Fifteen minutes on foot from the station and it costs nothing.
THE VALLEY WALK
The path from Lauterbrunnen towards Stechelberg is about an hour, entirely level, with falls on both sides the whole way. This is the easiest good walk in the Bernese Oberland and it is free.
IF YOU WANT MORE
Truemmelbach Falls, ten glacier waterfalls inside the mountain with a tunnel lift up through the rock, is on the add-on list. It is the only paid thing in this valley.
STAY · InterlakenMEALS · BreakfastRAIL · 20 min each waySIGHTS · FreeWORTH KNOWING · Staubbach is loudest in June and early July on the snowmelt and thins to a drifting veil by late September - both are worth seeing, they are just different. DAY 07

Departure from Zurich

nterlaken to the terminal - 2 hrs 15 min - One change
DEPARTURE
Departure from Zurich Airport
BREAKFAST
At the hotel — the sixth and last one.
RAIL
Interlaken Ost → Bern → Zurich Airport, roughly two and a half hours with one cross-platform change, arriving directly under the terminal.
OPTIONAL
If your flight is late enough, break the journey in Bern for a few hours — the UNESCO old town arcades are a five-minute walk from the station.

Important Information

Your trip is planned based on current availability and supplier schedules. We will confirm final arrangements in your booking confirmation.

Visual journey

Why this route works

The towns cost nothing, so the budget goes on the mountains
Zurich's Lindenhof, Lucerne's Chapel Bridge, Lion Monument and Musegg Wall towers, Interlaken's Hohematte and Unterseen, Staubbach Falls in Lauterbrunnen - every one of those is free to walk into. That is four of the seven days covered without a ticket, which is how the two summit days stay inside a budget price.
The card keeps working after we are done with it
The Swiss Half Fare Card is valid a month, not just for the tickets we have bought with it. Anything you add while you are there - Harder Kulm, a lake cruise, Truemmelbach, another summit - is half price too. On a budget trip that is worth more than one more thing bundled into the headline.
Zurich first, not last
One night in Zurich on arrival means you sleep off the flight in a city instead of pushing straight into the mountains, and the last three nights are settled in Interlaken. It also means the departure leg is a single train from Interlaken with no mountain village to get out of.

Full policy details

Cancellation Policy
  • 10 or more calendar days before departure: a 30% cancellation charge applies to the eligible package amount. Choose a 70% refund in USDC or 100% of the eligible amount as Atravelx Travel Credit.
  • Less than 10 calendar days before departure: 100% non-refundable. No refund or Travel Credit is ordinarily issued.
  • After travel commences, or no-show: non-refundable. No refund or Travel Credit is ordinarily available.
  • Days are counted as calendar days to the scheduled departure date, in UTC (Coordinated Universal Time). The timestamp on your written request fixes when Atravelx received it.
  • Cancellation requests must be made in writing through an authorised Atravelx channel: your concierge, info@atravelx.com or WhatsApp +91 92500 00511. A phone call alone does not cancel a booking until it is confirmed in writing.
  • Quote the booking reference, the lead traveller's name and the services affected. Atravelx may ask for identity or payment verification before acting on a request.
  • A reason is not needed to qualify under the 10-day window.
  • Cancelling some travellers, rooms, nights or services is a package amendment, not a cancellation. It does not qualify for the 10-day refund or credit on its own, and it can change the per-person price for the remaining travellers.
Atravelx Travel Credit
  • Travel Credit is issued as an Atravelx Credit Note for 100% of the eligible amount actually paid, denominated in USDC.
  • The 30% cancellation charge is waived when you choose Travel Credit instead of a refund.
  • Credit can be used towards any eligible service booked through Atravelx: holiday packages, stays, flights, transfers, sightseeing, car rental, visa assistance and other eligible services.
  • Travel Credit is non-cash. It cannot be withdrawn, exchanged for cryptocurrency or fiat currency, or transferred to another person, unless Atravelx agrees in writing.
  • The validity period and expiry date are stated on the Credit Note.
  • Prices at the time of the new booking apply. Travel Credit does not hold the same hotel, room, destination, dates, itinerary, supplier, activity, package or price.
  • If the new booking costs more, you pay the difference in USDC. If it costs less, the balance stays on the Credit Note under its terms.
  • Once you choose Travel Credit, the choice is final. It is not later converted into a refund.
Date Change Policy
  • Request date changes 10 or more calendar days before the scheduled departure date.
  • A date change is not guaranteed. It depends on hotel, transfer and activity availability, supplier approval, revised room rates, seasonal pricing, blackout dates, peak-season supplements, transport costs, fare differences, supplier amendment charges and revised itinerary costs.
  • If the revised package costs more, you pay the difference in USDC. Supplier amendment or date-change charges may also apply.
  • A date change is confirmed only when Atravelx confirms the revised arrangements in writing.
  • Requests made less than 10 calendar days before departure depend on supplier approval and cannot be guaranteed.
  • A postponement or date change is not a cancellation. It does not by itself create a refund or Travel Credit entitlement.
Bundled Holiday Packages
  • Atravelx holiday packages are booked and priced as bundled travel arrangements made up of several interconnected services.
  • Individual components of a confirmed package cannot ordinarily be cancelled separately.
  • Removing a service does not automatically entitle you to a proportionate refund or Travel Credit.
  • Any request to remove, replace or modify a component is treated as a package amendment, subject to supplier approval, availability, revised pricing, amounts recoverable and applicable charges.
  • A value shown against an individual service does not mean it was separately contracted or can be independently cancelled.
Visa & Travel Documentation
  • Travellers are responsible for a valid passport, the right visa, transit visas, entry permits, immigration documents, health documentation and any other paperwork required by the destination or a transit country.
  • Visa decisions are made solely by the relevant government, embassy, consulate or immigration authority. Atravelx does not guarantee approval, processing time or appointment availability.
  • A visa refusal, delay or failure to obtain a visa does not override the cancellation conditions unless Atravelx confirms otherwise in writing.
  • Government, embassy, visa application centre, biometric, courier and processing fees may be non-refundable once paid or submitted.
Refund Processing & Timeline
  • Atravelx acknowledges a cancellation request within 2 working days. Acknowledgement confirms receipt, not eligibility or amount. After reviewing the booking, Atravelx confirms in writing which services are cancelled, the refundable and non-refundable components, the deductions and the refund amount.
  • Approved refunds are processed within 45 working days from the date Atravelx confirms in writing that the refund is approved.
  • The 45 days do not run from the booking date, the date you first asked to cancel, or the departure date.
  • Working days exclude Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays in the United States and India.
  • Refunds are calculated and paid in USDC. The refund is the eligible package amount in USDC as shown on your invoice, less the cancellation charge and any supplier deductions.
  • If you paid in another cryptocurrency, the refund is still the USDC value of the eligible amount at the time of payment, not the number of coins you sent. Atravelx is not liable for changes in the market value of any coin between payment and refund.
  • Refunds are sent to the wallet address the payment came from, on the same network. If that is not possible, you may nominate another wallet, which Atravelx verifies in writing before sending. Atravelx is not responsible for funds sent to a wallet address you supplied incorrectly.
  • If you paid by card or bank transfer through an Atravelx payment partner, the refund goes back to that payment method where the partner supports it. Otherwise another method is agreed in writing.
  • Blockchain confirmations, payment partners, card issuers and banks may add time before the funds show in your wallet or account.
  • Where Atravelx cancels a confirmed booking for reasons within its reasonable control, all amounts received for the cancelled services are refunded in full, initiated within 7 working days. An alternative itinerary or Travel Credit may be offered, but you are not required to accept it instead of the refund.
  • An approved refund is not replaced with Travel Credit unless you expressly agree, or the supplier itself provides only a credit or voucher under conditions disclosed before booking.
Supplier-Specific & Non-Refundable Services
  • Certain services carry their own cancellation, refund or amendment terms: airline tickets, visa fees, embassy, consulate and visa-centre charges, travel insurance, rail tickets and passes, cruise and ferry bookings, event, concert, sports and attraction tickets, special-event bookings, non-refundable hotel rates, supplier deposits and any service identified as non-refundable.
  • Where supplier-specific conditions were communicated in the quotation, invoice, voucher, booking confirmation or service conditions before payment, those conditions apply to that service.
  • Blockchain network fees paid when you sent your payment are not part of the package amount and are not refundable.
No-Show, Unused & Partially Used Services
  • No refund or Travel Credit is ordinarily provided for: no-shows, cancellation after travel has commenced, voluntarily unused services, partly completed holidays, missed hotel nights, missed transfers, missed activities or sightseeing, missed trains or other transport, traveller delays, failure to report at the required time, services missed because of documentation issues, or services missed for reasons attributable to the traveller.
  • If a supplier voluntarily approves a refund in an exceptional case, Atravelx passes on the recoverable amount in USDC under the applicable supplier and booking conditions.
Booking Acceptance
  • By confirming a booking and making payment, you accept the cancellation, refund, date-change, bundled-package and Travel Credit conditions in this policy.
  • Conditions stated in writing for an individual booking (quotation, invoice, voucher or booking confirmation) supplement this policy. Where a supplier's terms are stricter and were disclosed before payment, they apply to that service.
  • A booking is governed by the version of this policy shown on the package page on the booking date, unless a later version is more favourable to you or Atravelx agrees otherwise in writing.
  • For events beyond Atravelx's reasonable control (severe weather, natural disasters, epidemics, war, civil unrest, strikes, government restrictions, border or airport closures, supplier insolvency and similar), refunds, credits, postponements or alternatives depend on the affected supplier's policy and the amounts recoverable. Atravelx helps coordinate with the suppliers.
  • Nothing in this policy restricts any statutory right available to a consumer under applicable law.

Frequently asked questions

Why is this cheaper than your other Swiss packages?

Three reasons, and none of them is a hidden cut. Hotels are central 3-star rather than 4-star. Only two things are ticketed - Mt Titlis and Grindelwald First - and the other four days run on sights that are free to walk into. And the extras that used to be bundled in, like Harder Kulm and a lake cruise, are now on a list with their prices so you only pay for the ones you want. You get the cheapest way we sell a 3,020m glacier summit, plus a rail card that halves the price of anything you add.

What did you take out to lower the price?

Four things, and we would rather tell you than let you compare two versions of this page. The one dinner in Interlaken, the Harder Kulm funicular, the Lake Lucerne cruise and Truemmelbach Falls were all included before. They are now on the Activities tab with their prices, and your Half Fare Card halves each of them. Hotels also moved from 4-star to 3-star. Nothing was taken out of the rail, the two summits or the number of nights.

Is a 3-star hotel in Switzerland actually fine?

Yes, and it is what makes this price possible. Swiss 3-star properties are clean, well-run, and centrally placed, and the star rating there reflects facilities like room service and a restaurant rather than standards of cleanliness. What you give up is space, a bar, and sometimes a lift. What you keep is a central location in all three towns, which on this itinerary matters more - every day starts on foot. If you want 4-star, we will quote it, and it adds roughly forty thousand to the package.

Are meals really not included?

Breakfast is, every morning. Lunches and dinners are not, and that is deliberate on a budget package. Switzerland is expensive to eat in - CHF 30 to 60 per person for a sit-down dinner - but supermarkets are excellent, all three towns have lakeside parks, and Interlaken has a Coop right by the station. Buying dinner and eating it by the water is completely normal here, not a sign of economising. If you would rather have dinners arranged, they are priced per evening on the Activities tab.

Why a Half Fare Card and not a Swiss Travel Pass?

Because with two paid lifts over six nights a pass does not earn its price back. The card costs CHF 150 and takes half off everything; the pass costs more than the card plus all the tickets on this route. The card also keeps working for a month, so every add-on is half price too. We check this comparison on each itinerary rather than defaulting to one product - on a package with Jungfraujoch in it the answer can be different again.

Can we add Jungfraujoch?

Yes, and it is on the add-on list at about nineteen thousand per person with your card discount applied. It needs a full day out of Interlaken, so it would replace the Lauterbrunnen day rather than sit alongside it. Being straight with you: it is the most expensive single ticket in Switzerland, and adding it raises this package by roughly fifteen per cent. If Jungfraujoch is the main thing you want, our Jungfrau Adventure or Family Discovery packages are built around it and work out better than bolting it onto this one.

Is this suitable for solo travellers?

The price shown is per person on two sharing, so a solo traveller pays a single occupancy supplement on the rooms - that is the only real difference, and we quote it on request. Everything else works the same: nothing here is a booked group departure, all the rail is flexible, and both summit days run on whatever schedule you choose. We also have a Budget Solo package built around single rooms from the start, which comes out lower if you are travelling alone.

When should we travel?

May to September. Both summit lifts are on their full schedule, the Bachalpsee path is clear of snow, Staubbach Falls is running hard, and hotel rates are at their lowest in May, June and September. July and August work but cost noticeably more, and the Chapel Bridge and Titlis are both at their busiest. Mt Titlis runs year-round, so a winter version of this trip is possible - but the Grindelwald First walk and the Lauterbrunnen Valley walk are both snow-dependent, and we would tell you what changes before you pay.

Do Indian passport holders need a visa for Switzerland?

Yes. Switzerland is in the Schengen area, so Indian passport holders need a Schengen visa before travelling. We help with the documentation, the hotel confirmations, the itinerary letter and the appointment, but the visa fee and the VFS Global service charges are not included in the package price, and the decision is the consulate's alone. Appointment waiting times vary throughout the year, so apply early and reconfirm the current requirements for your travel dates rather than relying on this page.

Are flights included?

No. This is a land package. International and domestic flights are quoted separately, so you can use your own airline, miles or a cheaper routing if you have one. The price on this page covers the six nights, the rail card and every ticket on the itinerary, both summits, the tourist tax and GST - everything from arriving at Zurich Airport to leaving from it.
