Switzerland Food & Chocolate Tour Package

Tour Overview
Gruyère cheese pulled fresh from an eight-hundred-litre copper vat in the same Alpine valley where it has been made for eight centuries, unlimited Cailler chocolate tasting in a one-hundred-twenty-five-year-old factory, and fondue in Bern's seventeen-seventeen frescoed cellar vault — Swiss food heritage six days.
A 5-night Switzerland food and chocolate tour package from India for people who would rather taste a country than photograph it - three nights in Zurich and two in Lucerne in central 3-star hotels, with a Swiss Half Fare Card. It runs all year, including the winter months when the mountain routes cannot.
Two chocolate makers and one cheese dairy, all of them working. At the Lindt Home of Chocolate in Kilchberg, you do the nine-metre fountain and the unlimited tasting, then spend forty minutes in an apron making a bar you take home. At Stein in Appenzell, you stand at the glass and watch a wheel of Appenzeller being turned. At Root, ten minutes out of Lucerne, Aeschbach lets you make a second bar and pour your own. Around those sit a self-guided tasting trail through Zurich's old town, a market morning and lunch in Bern, and a Swiss cheese and wine tasting in Lucerne. Dinners are not included on any night - this is a tasting trip, not a half-board one, and every evening is yours to choose. There is no cable car, no summit and no day that depends on the weather.

Arrive Zurich, and the old town tasting trail
10 min from the terminal - Sprungli - Three nights begin
- ARRIVAL
- The rail station is directly under Zurich Airport arrivals. Ten minutes to the main station, and the hotel is a walk from there.
- EVENING
- The Zeughauskeller in the old arsenal, which is where Zurich eats its own food rather than its tourist food. Dinner here is yours to pay for - the trail vouchers cover the afternoon tastings only.
- AFTERNOON
- A self-guided tasting trail through the old town with vouchers, not a guided tour. Sprungli on Paradeplatz for Luxemburgerli, a Tirggel and Huppen counter in the Niederdorf lanes, and a cheese shop that will cut you a tasting plate.
- IF YOU HAVE TIME
- The Lindenhof terrace above the lanes gives you the whole old town in one view, for nothing.
Central Zurich, 3-Star
3 nights - Breakfast - Walking distance from the main station
- Stay Three nights in a central 3-star double room with breakfast, priced per person on two sharing.
- Position Walking distance from Zurich main station, which is where the Kilchberg, Appenzell and Bern trains all leave from, and a short walk from Paradeplatz and the old town lanes.
- Meals Breakfast all three mornings.
- Note Shown as an example of the category and area we book in. Your confirmed property is named in your quotation.
Zurich Airport to the city
10 min - Direct - Trains every few minutes
- At the airport The station is directly under arrivals, with lifts down to the platform for luggage trolleys.
- Route Ten minutes to Zurich main station, trains every few minutes, at half fare on your card and inside the package.
- No fixed time Nothing is booked for arrival day except your room, so a delayed flight costs you nothing.
- Private car option Available as an add-on if you would rather not board a train off a long flight. Quoted separately.
Two Chocolate Makers (Included)
Lindt at Kilchberg with the workshop - Aeschbach at Root
- Lindt, Day 2 - included Entry to the Home of Chocolate with the nine-metre fountain, the bean-to-bar exhibition and the unlimited tasting, PLUS the forty-minute make-your-own-bar course with an apron and a Lindt Maitre hat.
- Aeschbach, Day 5 - included Chocolate World at Root with the own-bar option, at a family chocolatier rather than a corporation. A different process and a different scale from Lindt, which is why both are here.
- Booking The Lindt workshop runs to timed slots and weekends fill first. Yours is booked with your voucher before you travel.
- Not included Anything you buy in either shop. The tasting at Lindt is unlimited; the shelves are not.
DAY 02
Kilchberg - Lindt, and a bar you make yourself
20 min out - 9m chocolate fountain - 40 min workshopZURICH
Kilchberg - Lindt, and a bar you make yourself
20 min out - 9m chocolate fountain - 40 min workshop
- MORNING
- Twenty minutes down the lake shore to Kilchberg, where Lindt has made chocolate since 1899. Rail included.
- LINDT HOME OF CHOCOLATE
- The nine-metre fountain in the atrium, the making-of exhibition from bean to bar, and a tasting area at the end with no limit on what you try. Entry included.
- THE WORKSHOP
- Forty minutes in an apron and a Lindt Maitre hat, tempering and filling your own bar and choosing what goes on it. You take it home. Included - and it is the reason this day is here rather than a quick visit.
- AFTERNOON
- Back into Zurich, or stay on the Kilchberg lake promenade, which is quieter than anything on the city side.
Central Lucerne, 3-Star
2 nights - Breakfast - One cheese and wine tasting
- Stay Two nights in a central 3-star double room with breakfast.
- Position Close to the station for the Root train and inside the old town for the market, the cheese shops behind Kornmarkt and the cellar restaurants you will pick your own dinners from. Nothing on either day needs a transfer.
- Meals Breakfast both mornings
- Note Lucerne rooms sell out early for July and August. Your confirmed property and room category are stated in writing on your quotation before you pay anything.
Kilchberg, Appenzell and Root
Days 2, 3 and 5 - All pre-issued on the card
- Day 2, Kilchberg Day 2, Kilchberg: Twenty minutes each way on the lake shore line from Zurich. The Lindt building is a short walk from the station.
- Day 3, Appenzell About two hours each way, with one or two changes depending on the departure, then a short local leg to Stein. The longest day of the trip.
- Day 5, Root Ten minutes each way from Lucerne on the Zug line. The shortest excursion of the trip.
- No fixed departures None of these is a booked group departure. Only the Lindt workshop and the Appenzell cheese-demo hours set the clock.
Appenzeller Show Dairy (Included)
Cheese made behind glass - Demos 09:00 to 15:00 only
- Included Entry to the show dairy at Stein, where the production floor is behind glass and a wheel is made and turned while you watch.
- The timing that matters The dairy is open from nine in the morning to half past six, but the cheese-making demonstrations run only from nine to three. We book this as a morning departure so you see work rather than a quiet floor.
- The maturity tasting The shop carries the quarter, half and three-quarter matured wheels together, which is the only easy way to taste what ageing actually does. Buying is yours.
- Season Open all year, closed 25 December. This is one of the reasons the package runs in winter.
DAY 03
Appenzell - a cheese wheel turned at the glass
2 hrs out - Show dairy at Stein - Painted housesZURICH
Appenzell - a cheese wheel turned at the glass
2 hrs out - Show dairy at Stein - Painted houses
- MORNING, EARLY
- About two hours east to Appenzell, then on to Stein. It is the one early start of the trip, and there is a reason for it below.
- APPENZELLER SHOW DAIRY
- A working dairy with a glass wall, where you watch a wheel being made and turned, and the herb brine recipe stays a secret even to the people selling it. Entry included.
- THE SHOP
- The dairy sells the quarter, half and three-quarter matured wheels side by side, which is the only place you will taste the difference properly. Buying is yours - the entry is ours.
- AFTERNOON
- Appenzell village, where the house fronts are painted and the main street looks like a set. Free to walk, and the local bakeries sell Appenzeller Biberli.
Zurich to Lucerne, via Bern
2 hrs in total - 2-hour market stop in Bern
- Route Zurich to Bern, about an hour, then Bern to Lucerne, about another hour. The only hotel move of the trip.
- Break it Your ticket lets you stop in Bern as long as you like. Two hours covers the Munsterplatz and Barenplatz markets, the arcades and lunch, all within ten minutes of the station.
- Left luggage Bern station has lockers. Use them - the arcades are cobbled and the market is not a suitcase place.
- Timing Markets pack up around midday, so this is a morning departure from Zurich rather than a leisurely one.
The Trail, the Lunch and the Tasting (Included)
Self-guided Zurich trail - Bernese lunch - Cheese and wine
- Zurich tasting trail, Day 1 - included A self-guided route through the old town with tasting vouchers. Being straight with you: this is NOT a guided tour. A real guided culinary walk in Zurich is priced per group rather than per person and would add a great deal for two travellers - it is on the add-on list with its actual cost.
- Bern lunch, Day 4 - included A Bernese lunch in the arcades after the market.
- Cheese and wine tasting, Day 5 - included Four Swiss cheeses against four Swiss wines, in Lucerne in the late afternoon. Swiss wine is barely exported, so this is the part of the trip you cannot repeat at home.
- No dinner is included, on any night That is deliberate and it is the same across every Atravelq package. You pick and pay for your own dinners, which on a food trip is most of the fun - Switzerland runs CHF 30 to 60 per person for something ordinary and good. A fondue night is on the add-on list if you would rather we arranged one.
DAY 04
Bern market and, then on to Lucerne
1 hr - Munsterplatz market - Arcades - BerneseLUCERNE
Bern market and, then on to Lucerne
1 hr - Munsterplatz market - Arcades - Bernese
- MORNING
- An hour to Bern, bags with you. The station opens straight onto six kilometres of covered arcades, which is where the food shops are.
- THE MARKET
- Munsterplatz under the cathedral, with the Barenplatz stalls a few minutes away - Emmental and Gruyere cheeses by the wedge, Bernese sausage, and the alpine honey nobody exports. Market days are specific, so we time your Bern stop to one.
- AFTERNOON
- An hour on to Lucerne and check in. The evening is yours - the old town is a ten-minute walk and no dinner is included on any night of this package.
Lucerne to Zurich Airport
1 hr 10 min - One change at Zurich main station
- Route Lucerne to Zurich main station, about an hour, then ten minutes to the airport, arriving under the terminal.
- Buffer Allow four hours from the hotel. Trains on the Lucerne leg are roughly hourly.
- Early departure For a flight before 9 AM, a last night in Zurich instead of Lucerne works better. Quoted separately.
- Late flight If you leave in the evening, ask about a late check-out. It is requested with the hotel rather than confirmed here.
DAY 05
Root for a second bar, then a tasting in Lucerne
10 min out - Aeschbach Chocolate World - Lucerne market - Cheese and wineLUCERNE
Root for a second bar, then a tasting in Lucerne
10 min out - Aeschbach Chocolate World - Lucerne market - Cheese and wine
- MORNING
- Ten minutes out to Root for Aeschbach Chocolate World - a working family chocolatier rather than a corporation, so the scale is different from Lindt. Rail included.
- YOUR SECOND BAR
- The ticket we book includes making and pouring your own, which is a different process from the Lindt workshop - there you fill a mould, here you work with the flow. Included.
- AFTERNOON
- Back in Lucerne for the riverside market along the Reuss if your day lines up with it, and the old-town cheese and charcuterie shops behind Kornmarkt either way. Both free to browse.
- LATE AFTERNOON
- A cheese and wine tasting - four Swiss cheeses against four Swiss wines, which almost nobody from India has tried together. Swiss wine is barely exported because the country drinks nearly all of it. Included.
DAY 06
Departure from Zurich
Lucerne to the terminal - 1 hr 10 min - One changeDEPARTURE
Departure from Zurich
Lucerne to the terminal - 1 hr 10 min - One change
- BREAKFAST
- At the hotel - the fifth and last one.
- RAIL
- Lucerne to Zurich main station, about an hour, then ten minutes to the airport, arriving directly under the terminal.
- TIMING
- Allow four hours from the hotel. Trains on the Lucerne leg are roughly hourly, so there is one to catch comfortably either side of your target.
- LAST BUY
- Chocolate keeps, cheese does not travel well in a cabin bag, and Swiss customs rules on dairy into India are worth checking before you load up. Buy the chocolate, photograph the cheese.
Important Information
Your trip is planned based on current availability and supplier schedules. We will confirm final arrangements in your booking confirmation.

Full policy details
Cancellation Policy
- 10 or more calendar days before departure: a 30% cancellation charge applies to the eligible package amount. Choose a 70% refund in USDC or 100% of the eligible amount as Atravelx Travel Credit.
- Less than 10 calendar days before departure: 100% non-refundable. No refund or Travel Credit is ordinarily issued.
- After travel commences, or no-show: non-refundable. No refund or Travel Credit is ordinarily available.
- Days are counted as calendar days to the scheduled departure date, in UTC (Coordinated Universal Time). The timestamp on your written request fixes when Atravelx received it.
- Cancellation requests must be made in writing through an authorised Atravelx channel: your concierge, info@atravelx.com or WhatsApp +91 92500 00511. A phone call alone does not cancel a booking until it is confirmed in writing.
- Quote the booking reference, the lead traveller's name and the services affected. Atravelx may ask for identity or payment verification before acting on a request.
- A reason is not needed to qualify under the 10-day window.
- Cancelling some travellers, rooms, nights or services is a package amendment, not a cancellation. It does not qualify for the 10-day refund or credit on its own, and it can change the per-person price for the remaining travellers.
Atravelx Travel Credit
- Travel Credit is issued as an Atravelx Credit Note for 100% of the eligible amount actually paid, denominated in USDC.
- The 30% cancellation charge is waived when you choose Travel Credit instead of a refund.
- Credit can be used towards any eligible service booked through Atravelx: holiday packages, stays, flights, transfers, sightseeing, car rental, visa assistance and other eligible services.
- Travel Credit is non-cash. It cannot be withdrawn, exchanged for cryptocurrency or fiat currency, or transferred to another person, unless Atravelx agrees in writing.
- The validity period and expiry date are stated on the Credit Note.
- Prices at the time of the new booking apply. Travel Credit does not hold the same hotel, room, destination, dates, itinerary, supplier, activity, package or price.
- If the new booking costs more, you pay the difference in USDC. If it costs less, the balance stays on the Credit Note under its terms.
- Once you choose Travel Credit, the choice is final. It is not later converted into a refund.
Date Change Policy
- Request date changes 10 or more calendar days before the scheduled departure date.
- A date change is not guaranteed. It depends on hotel, transfer and activity availability, supplier approval, revised room rates, seasonal pricing, blackout dates, peak-season supplements, transport costs, fare differences, supplier amendment charges and revised itinerary costs.
- If the revised package costs more, you pay the difference in USDC. Supplier amendment or date-change charges may also apply.
- A date change is confirmed only when Atravelx confirms the revised arrangements in writing.
- Requests made less than 10 calendar days before departure depend on supplier approval and cannot be guaranteed.
- A postponement or date change is not a cancellation. It does not by itself create a refund or Travel Credit entitlement.
Bundled Holiday Packages
- Atravelx holiday packages are booked and priced as bundled travel arrangements made up of several interconnected services.
- Individual components of a confirmed package cannot ordinarily be cancelled separately.
- Removing a service does not automatically entitle you to a proportionate refund or Travel Credit.
- Any request to remove, replace or modify a component is treated as a package amendment, subject to supplier approval, availability, revised pricing, amounts recoverable and applicable charges.
- A value shown against an individual service does not mean it was separately contracted or can be independently cancelled.
Visa & Travel Documentation
- Travellers are responsible for a valid passport, the right visa, transit visas, entry permits, immigration documents, health documentation and any other paperwork required by the destination or a transit country.
- Visa decisions are made solely by the relevant government, embassy, consulate or immigration authority. Atravelx does not guarantee approval, processing time or appointment availability.
- A visa refusal, delay or failure to obtain a visa does not override the cancellation conditions unless Atravelx confirms otherwise in writing.
- Government, embassy, visa application centre, biometric, courier and processing fees may be non-refundable once paid or submitted.
Refund Processing & Timeline
- Atravelx acknowledges a cancellation request within 2 working days. Acknowledgement confirms receipt, not eligibility or amount. After reviewing the booking, Atravelx confirms in writing which services are cancelled, the refundable and non-refundable components, the deductions and the refund amount.
- Approved refunds are processed within 45 working days from the date Atravelx confirms in writing that the refund is approved.
- The 45 days do not run from the booking date, the date you first asked to cancel, or the departure date.
- Working days exclude Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays in the United States and India.
- Refunds are calculated and paid in USDC. The refund is the eligible package amount in USDC as shown on your invoice, less the cancellation charge and any supplier deductions.
- If you paid in another cryptocurrency, the refund is still the USDC value of the eligible amount at the time of payment, not the number of coins you sent. Atravelx is not liable for changes in the market value of any coin between payment and refund.
- Refunds are sent to the wallet address the payment came from, on the same network. If that is not possible, you may nominate another wallet, which Atravelx verifies in writing before sending. Atravelx is not responsible for funds sent to a wallet address you supplied incorrectly.
- If you paid by card or bank transfer through an Atravelx payment partner, the refund goes back to that payment method where the partner supports it. Otherwise another method is agreed in writing.
- Blockchain confirmations, payment partners, card issuers and banks may add time before the funds show in your wallet or account.
- Where Atravelx cancels a confirmed booking for reasons within its reasonable control, all amounts received for the cancelled services are refunded in full, initiated within 7 working days. An alternative itinerary or Travel Credit may be offered, but you are not required to accept it instead of the refund.
- An approved refund is not replaced with Travel Credit unless you expressly agree, or the supplier itself provides only a credit or voucher under conditions disclosed before booking.
Supplier-Specific & Non-Refundable Services
- Certain services carry their own cancellation, refund or amendment terms: airline tickets, visa fees, embassy, consulate and visa-centre charges, travel insurance, rail tickets and passes, cruise and ferry bookings, event, concert, sports and attraction tickets, special-event bookings, non-refundable hotel rates, supplier deposits and any service identified as non-refundable.
- Where supplier-specific conditions were communicated in the quotation, invoice, voucher, booking confirmation or service conditions before payment, those conditions apply to that service.
- Blockchain network fees paid when you sent your payment are not part of the package amount and are not refundable.
No-Show, Unused & Partially Used Services
- No refund or Travel Credit is ordinarily provided for: no-shows, cancellation after travel has commenced, voluntarily unused services, partly completed holidays, missed hotel nights, missed transfers, missed activities or sightseeing, missed trains or other transport, traveller delays, failure to report at the required time, services missed because of documentation issues, or services missed for reasons attributable to the traveller.
- If a supplier voluntarily approves a refund in an exceptional case, Atravelx passes on the recoverable amount in USDC under the applicable supplier and booking conditions.
Booking Acceptance
- By confirming a booking and making payment, you accept the cancellation, refund, date-change, bundled-package and Travel Credit conditions in this policy.
- Conditions stated in writing for an individual booking (quotation, invoice, voucher or booking confirmation) supplement this policy. Where a supplier's terms are stricter and were disclosed before payment, they apply to that service.
- A booking is governed by the version of this policy shown on the package page on the booking date, unless a later version is more favourable to you or Atravelx agrees otherwise in writing.
- For events beyond Atravelx's reasonable control (severe weather, natural disasters, epidemics, war, civil unrest, strikes, government restrictions, border or airport closures, supplier insolvency and similar), refunds, credits, postponements or alternatives depend on the affected supplier's policy and the amounts recoverable. Atravelx helps coordinate with the suppliers.
- Nothing in this policy restricts any statutory right available to a consumer under applicable law.
Frequently asked questions
There are no mountains at all. Is that really a Switzerland trip?
How is this different from your Family Cultural Discovery package?
That one is a museum-and-castle trip built for children - a bear park, a medieval castle, Europe's largest transport museum - and it visits the Lindt Home of Chocolate as one stop among many. This one is for adults who travel to eat. The only thing the two share is Lindt, and even there the experience differs: this package includes the forty-minute make-your-own-bar workshop, which that one does not. This route is also two nights shorter, has no castle or museum day, and is the only package we sell with meals in it beyond breakfast.
Is the Zurich food trail a guided tour?
No, and we would rather say it here than let you discover it on Day 1. What is included is a self-guided route through the old town with tasting vouchers - you walk it yourselves at your own pace. A proper guided culinary walk in Zurich is priced per group rather than per person, about CHF 380 for up to fifteen people plus a surcharge for English, which for two travellers works out at roughly twenty-six thousand rupees each. It is on the add-on list at its real cost, and it makes sense if you are a larger party. For two, the self-guided version gets you the same counters without the guide fee.
Why two chocolate factories? Is one not enough?
Because they are not the same thing. Lindt at Kilchberg is a corporation with a purpose-built visitor centre, a nine-metre fountain and a bean-to-bar exhibition - it is the scale of Swiss chocolate. Aeschbach at Root is a family chocolatier where you are standing much closer to the actual work. You make a bar at each, by different methods: at Lindt you fill a mould in a class; at Aeschbach you work with the flow. If you only want one, tell us, and we will take Aeschbach out and the price drops by about four thousand rupees.
Can we travel in winter?
Yes, and this is the route we actively recommend from November to March. Lindt, the Appenzeller dairy and Aeschbach are all indoors and open year-round; the Bern arcades are covered, and a fondue in a cellar tastes better in February than in July. The dairy closes only on 25 December. Winter also means the lowest hotel rates of the year in both cities. The one thing that changes is the markets, which thin out in the coldest months - we tell you what your dates will actually get.
Why is there no hotel night in Bern?
Because we hold our best rates in Zurich, Lucerne and Interlaken, and passing that on matters more here than at a third hotel. Bern sits exactly on the line between Zurich and Lucerne, so you get a two-hour stopover with the market, the arcades and lunch in it on the day you move - which is what you came to Bern for - without paying for a night and a check-in. Your bags go in a station locker for the two hours. If you specifically want to sleep in Bern, say so, and we will quote it, but it adds a night and a transfer.
Is the Appenzell day worth four hours on a train?
It is the one long day of the trip and it is a fair question. What you get is a working dairy where a wheel is made and turned behind glass, the maturity tasting in the shop, and a village with painted house fronts that most Switzerland itineraries never reach. The herb brine recipe is genuinely secret. If the travel time puts you off, tell us at enquiry and we will replace it with a Lucerne day plus the Transport Museum, which brings the price down by about two thousand rupees - but you will have a chocolate trip with no cheese in it.
We are vegetarian or have dietary restrictions. Does this work?
Mostly, with one honest caveat. Swiss restaurant kitchens handle vegetarian well; the chocolate and the cheese dairy are fine, and rosti and alpine macaroni are vegetarian staples. The caveat is that the cheese and wine tasting is dairy by definition - if you avoid dairy, that one inclusion will not work, and we will substitute something else at the same cost. Jain requirements need advance notice, not on-the-day arrangements. Tell us at enquiry, not at the restaurant.
Do Indian passport holders need a visa for Switzerland?
Yes. Switzerland is in the Schengen area, so Indian passport holders need a Schengen visa before travelling. We help with the documentation, the hotel confirmations, the itinerary letter and the appointment, but the visa fee and the VFS Global service charges are not included in the package price, and the decision is the consulate's alone. Appointment waiting times vary throughout the year, so apply early and reconfirm the current requirements for your travel dates rather than relying on this page.
Are flights included?
No. This is a land package. International and domestic flights are quoted separately, so you can use your own airline, miles or a cheaper routing if you have one. The price on this page covers the five nights, the rail card and every ticket on the itinerary, both chocolate makers with their workshops, the dairy, the Zurich trail, the three extra meals, the tourist tax and GST - everything from arriving at Zurich Airport to leaving from it.
