Tour Overview

Kapellbrücke at seven in the morning when the thirteen-thirty-three wooden bridge is empty and the Reuss River is silver-still, Zurich's Grossmünster towers at eight before the lake fills with tour boats, and Mount Rigi's thirteen lakes from above on the first morning cogwheel — Switzerland's essential cities in four days done at the right hours.

A 3-night Switzerland short break tour package from India for travellers working with four days rather than a fortnight - one night in Zurich, two in Lucerne, a lake cruise, and a full day on Mt Rigi. May to October gives you the clearest summit days and September is the quietest of them, while the Rigi cogwheels keep running right through winter. From ₹69,999 per person on two sharing - land package, international flights excluded. Tell us your dates and we will build the quote around them.

Itinerary — day by day

ZurichLucerneDeparture

DAY 01

Arrive Zurich, and straight onto the lake

10 min from the terminal - Lake cruise - One night
ZURICH
A Lake Zurich boat
ARRIVAL
The rail station sits directly under Zurich Airport arrivals, lifts and all. Ten minutes to the main station, and the hotel is a walk from there.
EVENING
Yours. The Niederdorf lanes are five minutes from Lindenhof and that is where Zurich eats on a weeknight.
AFTERNOON
The Lake Zurich cruise from Burkliplatz, about an hour and twenty-five minutes out and back along the Gold Coast shore. Included, and it is the gentlest possible thing to do on landing day.
LATE AFTERNOON
The old town lanes behind Limmatquai, then the Lindenhof terrace, which gives you the whole river and old town in one view and costs nothing.
Hotels

Central Zurich, 3-Star

1 night - Breakfast - Walking distance from the main station

  • Stay One night in a central 3-star double room with breakfast
  • Position Walking distance from Zurich main station, which is where the airport train arrives and the Lucerne train leaves from. Burkliplatz and the cruise pier are a ten-minute walk or two tram stops.
  • Meals Breakfast on the Day 2 morning.
  • Note Shown as an example of the category and area we book in. Your confirmed property is named in your quotation.
Transfers

Zurich Airport to the city

10 min - Direct - Trains every few minutes

  • At the airport The station is directly under arrivals, with lifts down to the platform for luggage trolleys.
  • Route Ten minutes to Zurich main station, trains every few minutes, ticket already inside the package.
  • No fixed time Nothing is booked for arrival day except your room and the cruise, and the cruise runs on a frequent timetable - so a delayed flight costs you nothing.
  • Private car option Available as an add-on if you would rather not board a train off a long flight. Quoted separately.
Activities

Mt Rigi Day Pass (Included)

1,798m - Every railway and cableway on the mountain

  • Included A full Rigi day pass plus the Lucerne to Arth-Goldau rail legs either side of it. Nothing to pay on the mountain.
  • Why Rigi on a short trip It is the summit you can reach in about an hour and ten from the hotel. The high-altitude peaks are higher, but they take most of a day in travel and cost two to three times the ticket - on four days that trade does not work.
  • Rigi Kaltbad On the way down, a terrace village with the Botta-designed mineral baths. Entry to the baths is not included, but the terrace and the views are free and the pass gets you there.
  • Weather The pass is a full day, so a grey morning can become a clear afternoon without costing you a second ticket. If the whole day is closed in, we cannot refund a mountain - that is in the notes below, honestly stated.

DAY 02

On to Lucerne - the bridge, the lion and the wall

Zurich to Lucerne, about 50 min by train - No change - Two nights begin
LUCERNE
Chapel Bridge and the Water Tower
EVENING
Yours, and the old town is a ten-minute walk. No dinner is included on any night of this package.
MORNING
Zurich to Lucerne, about fifty minutes with no change, bags with you. The only hotel move of the trip, and the station opens onto the lake.
MIDDAY
Chapel Bridge, built in 1333 and the oldest covered wooden bridge in Europe, with the octagonal Water Tower halfway along it. Free to walk, two minutes from the station.
AFTERNOON
The Lion Monument, cut into the rock face in 1821 - Mark Twain called it the saddest piece of stone in the world and he was not exaggerating. Then the Musegg Wall, where four of the nine towers are open to climb, for nothing.
Hotels

Central Lucerne, 3-Star

2 nights - Breakfast - Old town and station both on foot

  • Base 2 Two nights in a central 3-star double room with breakfast - the longer of the two stays, and the one the summit day leaves from.
  • Position Close enough to the station for the Arth-Goldau train and inside the old town for the bridge, the wall and the cellar restaurants. Nothing on either day needs a transfer.
  • Meals Breakfast both mornings.
  • Note Lucerne rooms sell out early for July and August. Your confirmed property and room category are stated in writing on your quotation before you pay anything.
Transfers

Zurich to Lucerne

About 50 min - No change - The only hotel move

  • Route Zurich main station to Lucerne, about fifty minutes, direct. Trains run through the day, so this is not a fixed departure.
  • Luggage One move, one unpack. This is the entire internal transfer load of the trip, which is the point of a two-base plan on four days.
  • On arrival Lucerne station opens straight onto the lake and the old town is across the bridge - no transfer needed to reach the hotel area.
  • Timing A mid-morning departure gets you to Lucerne for lunch and leaves the whole afternoon for the bridge, the lion and the wall.
Activities

Lake Zurich Cruise (Included)

About 1 hr 25 min - From Burkliplatz - Landing-day pace

  • Included The short round trip from Burkliplatz, out along the shore and back, about an hour and twenty-five minutes on the water.
  • Why it is on arrival day You have just come off a long flight. A boat is the one thing that asks nothing of you, and it gets you oriented on the city without a single decision.
  • Which side The right-hand side leaving Burkliplatz is the Gold Coast shore and it holds the afternoon sun. On a clear day the Alps sit at the far end of the lake.
  • Season The short lake routes run through the year, with a reduced winter timetable. If your dates fall in the thinnest weeks we swap this for the Zurich old town walk and say so at quotation.

Chapel Bridge is emptiest before nine and after six; between those hours, it is a queue of cameras.
DAY 03

Mt Rigi - Europe's first mountain railway

Lucerne to Arth-Goldau about 30 min - Cogwheel since 1871 - 1,798m
LUCERNE
Mt Rigi kulm
MORNING
Lucerne to Arth-Goldau, about thirty minutes, then the cogwheel up. Around an hour and ten door to summit, which is why this day does not need an early start.
THE CLIMB
The Rigi line opened in 1871 and was the first mountain railway in Europe - the whole Swiss cogwheel industry started on this slope. The gradient is steep enough that you feel the rack engage.
RIGI KULM, 1,798M
A clear day gives you Lake Lucerne, Lake Zug and the Alps across the whole southern horizon. Rigi is called the Queen of the Mountains because it stands alone, so the view is 360 degrees rather than a wall of rock.
AFTERNOON
Down via Rigi Kaltbad and the cable car, or back the way you came - your day pass covers every Rigi railway and cableway, so you can change your mind up there.
Transfers

Lucerne to Rigi and back

About 30 min rail each way - Then the cogwheel - Day pass included

  • Out Lucerne to Arth-Goldau, about thirty minutes, then the cogwheel from the station square. Roughly an hour and ten in total from hotel to summit.
  • The pass A full Rigi day pass, which covers every railway and cableway on the mountain - so you can go up one way and come down another without buying anything.
  • The boat version The classic approach is the Lake Lucerne paddle steamer to Vitznau and the cogwheel up from there. It is not in this price because it adds a real cost - it is on the Activities tab with its figure, and plenty of people take it.
  • Season The Arth-Goldau and Vitznau cogwheel lines run year round. Individual cable car sections close for maintenance in spring and autumn, and we tell you if your dates hit one.
Activities

What You Walk To, for Nothing

Chapel Bridge - Lion Monument - Musegg Wall - Lindenhof

  • Chapel Bridge, Lucerne Built in 1333 and the oldest covered wooden bridge in Europe, with the Water Tower set into it. Free, and two minutes from the station.
  • Lion Monument Cut into the rock in 1821 for the Swiss Guards who died at the Tuileries. Free, and about fifteen minutes on foot from the bridge.
  • Musegg Wall Nine medieval towers along the old city wall, four of them open to climb, with no ticket. Roughly April to the start of November.
  • Lindenhof, Zurich A terrace above the old town with the whole river bend in view. No entry, no queue, and the best thirty minutes in Zurich that cost nothing.

DAY 04

Departure from Zurich

Lucerne to the terminal - 1 hr 10 min - One change
DEPARTURE
Zurich Airport rail station near airport
BREAKFAST
At the hotel - the third and last one.
RAIL
Lucerne to Zurich main station, about an hour, then ten minutes to the airport, arriving directly under the terminal.
TIMING
Allow four hours from the hotel. Trains on the Lucerne leg are roughly hourly, so there is one to catch comfortably either side of your target.
IF YOUR FLIGHT IS EARLY
Ask us to flip the last night to Zurich instead of Lucerne. It costs the same and saves you the hour.
Transfers

Lucerne to Zurich Airport

1 hr 10 min - One change at Zurich main station

  • Route Lucerne to Zurich main station, about an hour, then ten minutes to the airport, arriving under the terminal.
  • Buffer Allow four hours from the hotel. Trains on the Lucerne leg are roughly hourly.
  • Early departure For a flight before 9 AM we move the last night from Lucerne to Zurich at no extra cost. Ask at enquiry and we will build it that way round.
  • Late flight If you leave in the evening, ask about a late check-out. It is requested with the hotel rather than confirmed here.

Visual journey

Why this route works

Four days is the design, not a compromise
Most short Switzerland itineraries are a longer trip with days cut out of it, which is why they feel rushed - three cities, two overnight moves, a summit squeezed in on a travel day. This one was built at four days. Zurich and Lucerne sit under an hour apart, the summit day leaves from the hotel you are already in, and nothing on the plan needs an alarm before seven.
One summit, and it is the right one for a short trip
Rigi is 1,798m, reachable in about an hour and ten minutes from the Lucerne hotel, and the cogwheel line up it opened in 1871 as the first mountain railway in Europe. The high-altitude summits are higher but they eat a whole day in travel and cost two to three times the ticket. On a four-day trip, Rigi gives you the view and leaves you the afternoon.
No rail pass, because the arithmetic says so
We price the rail product route by route rather than putting a Swiss Travel Pass on everything. On this one a Half Fare Card costs CHF 150 and would save about CHF 98 on three days of short legs - so it loses money, and we leave it out and buy the tickets outright instead. That decision is a large part of why this package sits where it does on price.

Full policy details

Cancellation Policy
  • 10 or more calendar days before departure: a 30% cancellation charge applies to the eligible package amount. Choose a 70% refund in USDC or 100% of the eligible amount as Atravelx Travel Credit.
  • Less than 10 calendar days before departure: 100% non-refundable. No refund or Travel Credit is ordinarily issued.
  • After travel commences, or no-show: non-refundable. No refund or Travel Credit is ordinarily available.
  • Days are counted as calendar days to the scheduled departure date, in UTC (Coordinated Universal Time). The timestamp on your written request fixes when Atravelx received it.
  • Cancellation requests must be made in writing through an authorised Atravelx channel: your concierge, info@atravelx.com or WhatsApp +91 92500 00511. A phone call alone does not cancel a booking until it is confirmed in writing.
  • Quote the booking reference, the lead traveller's name and the services affected. Atravelx may ask for identity or payment verification before acting on a request.
  • A reason is not needed to qualify under the 10-day window.
  • Cancelling some travellers, rooms, nights or services is a package amendment, not a cancellation. It does not qualify for the 10-day refund or credit on its own, and it can change the per-person price for the remaining travellers.
Atravelx Travel Credit
  • Travel Credit is issued as an Atravelx Credit Note for 100% of the eligible amount actually paid, denominated in USDC.
  • The 30% cancellation charge is waived when you choose Travel Credit instead of a refund.
  • Credit can be used towards any eligible service booked through Atravelx: holiday packages, stays, flights, transfers, sightseeing, car rental, visa assistance and other eligible services.
  • Travel Credit is non-cash. It cannot be withdrawn, exchanged for cryptocurrency or fiat currency, or transferred to another person, unless Atravelx agrees in writing.
  • The validity period and expiry date are stated on the Credit Note.
  • Prices at the time of the new booking apply. Travel Credit does not hold the same hotel, room, destination, dates, itinerary, supplier, activity, package or price.
  • If the new booking costs more, you pay the difference in USDC. If it costs less, the balance stays on the Credit Note under its terms.
  • Once you choose Travel Credit, the choice is final. It is not later converted into a refund.
Date Change Policy
  • Request date changes 10 or more calendar days before the scheduled departure date.
  • A date change is not guaranteed. It depends on hotel, transfer and activity availability, supplier approval, revised room rates, seasonal pricing, blackout dates, peak-season supplements, transport costs, fare differences, supplier amendment charges and revised itinerary costs.
  • If the revised package costs more, you pay the difference in USDC. Supplier amendment or date-change charges may also apply.
  • A date change is confirmed only when Atravelx confirms the revised arrangements in writing.
  • Requests made less than 10 calendar days before departure depend on supplier approval and cannot be guaranteed.
  • A postponement or date change is not a cancellation. It does not by itself create a refund or Travel Credit entitlement.
Bundled Holiday Packages
  • Atravelx holiday packages are booked and priced as bundled travel arrangements made up of several interconnected services.
  • Individual components of a confirmed package cannot ordinarily be cancelled separately.
  • Removing a service does not automatically entitle you to a proportionate refund or Travel Credit.
  • Any request to remove, replace or modify a component is treated as a package amendment, subject to supplier approval, availability, revised pricing, amounts recoverable and applicable charges.
  • A value shown against an individual service does not mean it was separately contracted or can be independently cancelled.
Visa & Travel Documentation
  • Travellers are responsible for a valid passport, the right visa, transit visas, entry permits, immigration documents, health documentation and any other paperwork required by the destination or a transit country.
  • Visa decisions are made solely by the relevant government, embassy, consulate or immigration authority. Atravelx does not guarantee approval, processing time or appointment availability.
  • A visa refusal, delay or failure to obtain a visa does not override the cancellation conditions unless Atravelx confirms otherwise in writing.
  • Government, embassy, visa application centre, biometric, courier and processing fees may be non-refundable once paid or submitted.
Refund Processing & Timeline
  • Atravelx acknowledges a cancellation request within 2 working days. Acknowledgement confirms receipt, not eligibility or amount. After reviewing the booking, Atravelx confirms in writing which services are cancelled, the refundable and non-refundable components, the deductions and the refund amount.
  • Approved refunds are processed within 45 working days from the date Atravelx confirms in writing that the refund is approved.
  • The 45 days do not run from the booking date, the date you first asked to cancel, or the departure date.
  • Working days exclude Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays in the United States and India.
  • Refunds are calculated and paid in USDC. The refund is the eligible package amount in USDC as shown on your invoice, less the cancellation charge and any supplier deductions.
  • If you paid in another cryptocurrency, the refund is still the USDC value of the eligible amount at the time of payment, not the number of coins you sent. Atravelx is not liable for changes in the market value of any coin between payment and refund.
  • Refunds are sent to the wallet address the payment came from, on the same network. If that is not possible, you may nominate another wallet, which Atravelx verifies in writing before sending. Atravelx is not responsible for funds sent to a wallet address you supplied incorrectly.
  • If you paid by card or bank transfer through an Atravelx payment partner, the refund goes back to that payment method where the partner supports it. Otherwise another method is agreed in writing.
  • Blockchain confirmations, payment partners, card issuers and banks may add time before the funds show in your wallet or account.
  • Where Atravelx cancels a confirmed booking for reasons within its reasonable control, all amounts received for the cancelled services are refunded in full, initiated within 7 working days. An alternative itinerary or Travel Credit may be offered, but you are not required to accept it instead of the refund.
  • An approved refund is not replaced with Travel Credit unless you expressly agree, or the supplier itself provides only a credit or voucher under conditions disclosed before booking.
Supplier-Specific & Non-Refundable Services
  • Certain services carry their own cancellation, refund or amendment terms: airline tickets, visa fees, embassy, consulate and visa-centre charges, travel insurance, rail tickets and passes, cruise and ferry bookings, event, concert, sports and attraction tickets, special-event bookings, non-refundable hotel rates, supplier deposits and any service identified as non-refundable.
  • Where supplier-specific conditions were communicated in the quotation, invoice, voucher, booking confirmation or service conditions before payment, those conditions apply to that service.
  • Blockchain network fees paid when you sent your payment are not part of the package amount and are not refundable.
No-Show, Unused & Partially Used Services
  • No refund or Travel Credit is ordinarily provided for: no-shows, cancellation after travel has commenced, voluntarily unused services, partly completed holidays, missed hotel nights, missed transfers, missed activities or sightseeing, missed trains or other transport, traveller delays, failure to report at the required time, services missed because of documentation issues, or services missed for reasons attributable to the traveller.
  • If a supplier voluntarily approves a refund in an exceptional case, Atravelx passes on the recoverable amount in USDC under the applicable supplier and booking conditions.
Booking Acceptance
  • By confirming a booking and making payment, you accept the cancellation, refund, date-change, bundled-package and Travel Credit conditions in this policy.
  • Conditions stated in writing for an individual booking (quotation, invoice, voucher or booking confirmation) supplement this policy. Where a supplier's terms are stricter and were disclosed before payment, they apply to that service.
  • A booking is governed by the version of this policy shown on the package page on the booking date, unless a later version is more favourable to you or Atravelx agrees otherwise in writing.
  • For events beyond Atravelx's reasonable control (severe weather, natural disasters, epidemics, war, civil unrest, strikes, government restrictions, border or airport closures, supplier insolvency and similar), refunds, credits, postponements or alternatives depend on the affected supplier's policy and the amounts recoverable. Atravelx helps coordinate with the suppliers.
  • Nothing in this policy restricts any statutory right available to a consumer under applicable law.

Frequently asked questions

Is three nights really enough for Switzerland?

For this slice of it, yes - and that is the honest framing. Three nights is enough to see Zurich properly, spend two days in Lucerne and climb one summit without rushing any of it. It is not enough for the Jungfrau region, Zermatt, the panoramic trains or the Italian-speaking south, and we will not pretend otherwise. What this package does is give you a complete, unhurried trip inside four days instead of a compressed version of an eight-day one. Most people who book it are working with the leave they actually have, and a fair number come back later for a longer route.

How is this different from your longer Switzerland packages?

Everything other than the two cities. Our 6 and 7-night routes add Interlaken as a third base, reach the Jungfrau region or the Schilthorn, include lake cruises on Thun and Brienz, and carry a rail card because by then the arithmetic supports one. This package has one base change instead of two, one summit instead of two or three, no rail card, and a tighter price. It is not a shortened version of those - it is built around a different constraint, which is the number of days you can take off work.

We are already going to Paris or Italy. Can we add this on?

That is one of the main reasons it exists. Zurich has direct rail and air links to most of Western Europe, and because the package is quoted from Zurich Airport to Zurich Airport, it drops into a bigger trip without rework. Tell us at enquiry where you are coming from and going to, and we will adjust the arrival and departure ends - starting from Basel or Geneva instead of Zurich is also possible, though it changes the rail legs and the price slightly. The Schengen visa covers Switzerland and your other stops together.

Mt Rigi or Mt Pilatus - which should we take?

Rigi is in the package, and Pilatus is a small add-on; both are good. Rigi is 1,798m, stands alone so the view is a full circle, carries the 1871 cogwheel line that was the first mountain railway in Europe, and runs year-round. Pilatus is 2,128 m, and the Golden Round Trip is a more varied loop - boat, cogwheel, cable car, bus - but its cogwheel section runs only from about mid-May to late November, so it is not an option for a winter trip. We included Rigi in the package because it runs every day; swap to Pilatus if you are travelling in summer and want the bigger loop.

Why is there no Swiss Travel Pass in this package?

Because it would cost you money rather than save you money, and we price the rail product route by route rather than putting a pass on everything. The travel on this itinerary comes to roughly CHF 195 at full fare. A 3-day Swiss Travel Pass is CHF 254 and a Half Fare Card is CHF 150 for 2026, and the card would only halve about CHF 195 of fares - so neither pays back on three nights. We buy the tickets outright, and the saving sits in the package price. On a longer route, the answer flips, and it does on our 6- and 7-night packages.

Are the hotels confirmed?

No - the properties shown are examples of the 3-star category and the central areas we book in, not a held booking. Your actual hotel is named in your quotation before you pay anything. If the property we want is unavailable for your dates, we move you to a similar-tier alternative in the same area and tell you in advance rather than on arrival. Lucerne in July and August is the tightest month pair, so early dates help there.

Do Indian passport holders need a visa for Switzerland?

Yes. Switzerland is in the Schengen area, so Indian passport holders need a Schengen visa before travelling. We help with the documentation, the hotel confirmations, the itinerary letter and the appointment, but the visa fee and the VFS Global service charges are not included in the package price, and the decision is the consulate's alone. Appointment waiting times vary throughout the year, so apply early and reconfirm the current requirements for your travel dates rather than relying on this page.

Are flights included?

No. This is a land package. International and domestic flights are quoted separately, so you can use your own airline, miles or a cheaper routing if you have one. The price on this page covers the three nights with breakfast, every rail ticket on the itinerary, the Mt Rigi day pass, the Lake Zurich cruise, the city tourist tax and GST - everything from arriving at Zurich Airport to leaving from it.
