Tour Overview

Zurich · Lucerne · Interlaken — 7 Days / 6 Nights

A 6-night Switzerland honeymoon package from India built around water rather than altitude - one night in Zurich on arrival, two in Lucerne and three in Interlaken, all in central 3-star hotels with a Swiss Half Fare Card. Best from mid-May to the end of October, which is the only window when both lakeside castles are open.

Four lake journeys across three lakes, and one summit that earns its place. Lake Zurich on the first evening, a sunset cruise on Lake Lucerne, then a boat across to Kehrsiten for the Hammetschwand lift - 153m of open shaft bolted to the Burgenstock cliff, the highest exterior lift in Europe and still running since 1905. On Lake Thun, Spiez Castle sits on a promontory in the water, and Oberhofen Castle has its tower standing in the lake itself, plus the St Beatus Caves cut into the shore. The mountain is Schilthorn at 2,970m, where the restaurant turns a full circle while you eat, and the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau line up in the window.

Itinerary — day by day

ZurichLucerneInterlakenDeparture

DAY 01

Arrive Zurich, out on the lake by evening

10 min from the terminal - Lake Zurich cruise - One night
ZURICH
A Lake Zurich boat
ARRIVAL
The rail station is directly under Zurich Airport arrivals. Ten minutes to the main station, and the hotel is a walk from there.
EVENING
A Lake Zurich cruise from Burkliplatz, straight out from the end of Bahnhofstrasse. An hour on the water with the old town behind you and the Glarus Alps ahead on a clear evening. Included.
BEFORE THE BOAT
The Lindenhof, a flat terrace on the hill in the middle of the old town that gives you the whole thing in one view. Free, and almost nobody goes up.
WHY START ON WATER
Most Switzerland trips spend the first evening in a hotel room recovering. This one puts you on a lake two hours after landing, which is a better first photograph than a corridor.
Hotels

Central Zurich, 4-Star

1 night - Breakfast - Walking distance from the main station

  • Stay One night in a central 3-star double room with breakfast, priced per person on two sharing.
  • Position Walking distance from Zurich main station, where the airport train arrives and the Lucerne train leaves the next morning. Burkliplatz and the lake boats are a fifteen-minute walk.
  • Meals here Breakfast on the morning you leave. No dinner is included in Zurich.
  • Honeymoon requests A double bed rather than two singles, a higher floor and a quiet side are all requested with the booking. Each property answers these individually and your quotation says what has been confirmed.
Transfers

Zurich Airport to the city

10 min - Direct - Trains every few minutes

  • At the airport The station is directly under arrivals, with lifts down to the platform for luggage trolleys.
  • Route Ten minutes to Zurich main station, trains every few minutes, at half fare on your card and inside the package.
  • Shortest arrival leg we run Ten minutes from terminal to bed is the reason this route opens in Zurich - and it is what makes a lake cruise on the first evening realistic.
  • Private car option Available as an add-on if you would rather not board a train off a long flight. Quoted separately.
Activities

Schilthorn, Piz Gloria (Included)

2,970m - Revolving restaurant - Thrill Walk - Full day

  • Included The full return journey from Interlaken - rail to Stechelberg and all four cable car stages through Gimmelwald, Murren and Birg to the summit.
  • Piz Gloria The summit restaurant turns a full circle while you sit in it, so the view comes round to you. Table bookings are made with your voucher.
  • The Thrill Walk A steel gallery bolted to the cliff at Birg with glass and mesh floor panels, on the way up and down at no extra cost.
  • Weather Cable-car dependent and closes occasionally for high wind. With three Interlaken nights this day can move to Day 6, or it is refunded if it cannot run at all during your stay.

The long circuit is nearly four hours, and after a flight from India, that is one hour of lake and three of sitting. The short loop gives you the same water and the same light and gets you to dinner.
DAY 02

Zurich to Lucerne, and a sunset on the lake

1 hr direct - Chapel Bridge - Lake Lucerne sunset cruise
LUCERNE
Lucerne Chapel Bridge and the water tower
EVENING
A sunset cruise on Lake Lucerne, with mountains on both sides and the water going from blue to copper. Some of the fleet are restored paddle steamers from the 1900s. Included.
MORNING
Direct train to Lucerne, about an hour, roughly hourly through the day.
AFTERNOON
The Chapel Bridge, the oldest surviving wooden covered bridge in Europe, and the Lion Monument ten minutes away. Both free.
THE FREE VIEW
The Musegg Wall towers are open in season and cost nothing to climb - the best look over the old roofs without buying a ticket.
Hotels

Central Lucerne, 3-Star

2 nights - Breakfast - Near the station and the steamer quay

  • Stay Two nights in a central 3-star double room with breakfast.
  • Position Close to the station and the steamer quay, which is where both the sunset cruise and the Burgenstock boat leave from. Neither day needs a transfer.
  • Meals Breakfast both mornings. No dinner is included in Lucerne.
  • Lake-view rooms Available at several of the properties we use, at a supplement quoted per night. Worth asking about for the two Lucerne nights specifically - the view is across the water to the Burgenstock ridge you go up the next day.
Transfers

Zurich to Lucerne

1 hr - Direct - Roughly hourly

  • Route Direct from Zurich main station to Lucerne, about an hour, no change and no reservation.
  • Frequency Roughly hourly through the day, so the morning is yours to start when you like.
  • The view Lake Zug on the right for about ten minutes in the middle of the journey - a third lake, thrown in free.
  • Luggage Rack space in every carriage, and the Lucerne hotel is a walk from the station.
Activities

Burgenstock and the Hammetschwand Lift (Included)

Boat - Funicular - 153m open shaft - Cliff path

  • Included The Lake Lucerne boat to Kehrsiten, the Burgenstock funicular both ways, and the Hammetschwand lift.
  • The lift 153m of open shaft on the outside of the cliff, the highest exterior lift in Europe, running since 1905. Under a minute from bottom to top.
  • The Felsenweg A level path cut into the rock face with the lake several hundred metres below, about twenty-five minutes to the lift. Free.
  • Season The lift runs 3 April to late November. Outside that the funicular and the path still operate and the walk up from the ridge takes about forty minutes - we tell you which applies before you pay.

DAY 03

Burgenstock and the Hammetschwand lift

Boat to Kehrsiten - Funicular - 153m open lift shaft
LUCERNE
The Hammetschwand lift shaft on the open cliff face
MORNING
A boat across Lake Lucerne to Kehrsiten, about twenty-five minutes, then the funicular up the Burgenstock ridge. Both included.
THE CLIFF PATH
The Felsenweg is cut into the rock face and runs level along the cliff with the lake several hundred metres straight below. Free, and the walk to the lift takes about twenty-five minutes.
THE HAMMETSCHWAND LIFT
An open shaft bolted to the outside of the cliff, 153m straight up, the highest exterior lift in Europe. It has been running since 1905 and the ride takes under a minute. Included.
AT THE TOP
A terrace at 1,128m with Lake Lucerne spread out below and the Rigi and Pilatus massifs on either side. There is a restaurant, and almost no crowd - most day trippers from Lucerne never come here.
Hotels

Central Interlaken, 3-Star

3 nights - Breakfast - One dinner - Near Interlaken Ost

  • Stay Three of the six nights in a central 3-star double room, within walking distance of Interlaken Ost and the Lake Thun jetty.
  • Breakfast Breakfast all three mornings, plus the lakeside three-course dinner on Day 4. That Day 4 dinner is the only dinner included anywhere in this package.
  • Why three nights Spiez, Schilthorn and the Oberhofen day all run from this one room. Three unbroken nights at the end of the trip is the point of the whole route order.
  • Note Interlaken rooms sell out early for July and August. Your confirmed property and room category are stated in writing on your quotation before you pay anything.
Transfers

Lucerne to Interlaken Ost

Luzern-Interlaken Express - 2 hrs - Brunig Pass

  • Route Over the Brunig Pass, past Lake Sarnen and Lake Lungern, about two hours with no change. The only long move of the trip.
  • A scenic leg, not a transfer This is one of Switzerland's named scenic routes and it is also the ordinary way between the two towns. No supplement, no reservation.
  • Timing on Day 4 Morning train, check in, then the Lake Thun boat to Spiez in the afternoon. The dinner is that evening, so the moving day is also the fullest one.
  • Luggage Rack space in every carriage. Station-to-station forwarding can be added if you would rather send bags ahead. Quoted separately.
Activities

The Lakes, Castles and Caves (Included)

Spiez - Oberhofen - St Beatus Caves - One dinner

  • Spiez Castle, Day 4 Reached by boat across Lake Thun, which is the only way to see the promontory properly. Entry included.
  • St Beatus Caves, Day 6 A kilometre of lit passage past underground waterfalls, cut into the Lake Thun shore. Entry included.
  • Oberhofen Castle, Day 6 Boat along the north shore to the castle with its tower standing in the water, and a park of specimen trees behind it. Entry included.

DAY 04

Over the Brunig Pass, then Spiez Castle by boat

2 hrs scenic - Lake Thun - Castle on a promontory
INTERLAKEN
Spiez Castle on its promontory with the bay and vineyard
EVENING
A three-course lakeside dinner for two back in Interlaken. This is the only dinner included in the package - every other evening is yours to choose.
MORNING
The Luzern-Interlaken Express over the Brunig Pass, with Lake Lungern below it. Two hours, no reservation, no supplement.
AFTERNOON
Check in, then a Lake Thun boat out to Spiez. The approach is the point - the castle sits on a promontory with a vineyard behind it and a horseshoe bay in front, and it only looks like that from the water. Included.
SPIEZ CASTLE
A medieval tower with a Romanesque church beside it, a hall hung with the originals, and a park that runs down to the water. Entry included.

The Four Boat Journeys

Days 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 - All pre-issued on the card

  • Lake Zurich, Day 1 Short round trip from Burkliplatz, about an hour. A fifteen-minute walk from a central Zurich hotel.
  • Lake Lucerne, Days 2 and 3 A sunset cruise on the first evening, then the crossing to Kehrsiten for Burgenstock the next morning. Both from the quay beside the station.
  • Lake Thun, Days 4 and 6 Interlaken West to Spiez on the moving day, and the north shore to Oberhofen on Day 6. The jetty is a walk from the Interlaken hotel.
  • Fares Lake Thun is priced by distance, so those two legs are confirmed at their exact fare on your quotation rather than estimated here.

Spiez Castle's museum runs only from 1 May to 31 October; the park and the church are free and open year-round, so an early-spring trip still gets you the approach and the grounds, just not the rooms.
DAY 05

Schilthorn and the revolving restaurant

2,970m - Piz Gloria - Thrill Walk - Full day
INTERLAKEN
Piz Gloria
THE CLIMB
Interlaken Ost towards Lauterbrunnen and on to Stechelberg, then four cable car stages through Gimmelwald and Murren to the summit. About two hours each way, which makes this a full day.
AT 2,970M
Piz Gloria, a restaurant that turns a full circle while you sit in it, and a terrace looking straight across at the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau. Included.
THE THRILL WALK
At the Birg middle station, a steel walkway bolted to the cliff face with glass and mesh floor sections. It is on the way up and down and costs nothing extra.
WHY SCHILTHORN
It is the one summit in the Bernese Oberland where you look AT the three big peaks rather than standing on them - which photographs better, and comes with lunch in a room that moves.
Transfers

Interlaken to Zurich Airport

2 hrs 15 min - One change at Zurich main station

  • Route Interlaken Ost to Zurich main station via Bern, then ten minutes to the airport, arriving under the terminal.
  • Buffer Allow five hours from the hotel. This is the longest departure leg of our Swiss routes, which is the trade-off for three settled nights in Interlaken at the end.
  • Early departure For a flight before 10 AM, a last night in Zurich instead of Interlaken works better. Quoted separately.
  • Late flight If you leave in the evening, ask about a late check-out. It is requested with the hotel rather than confirmed here.
STAY · InterlakenMEALS · BreakfastSUMMIT · 2,970mSTATUS · IncludedTYPE · Rail, 1 changeDURATION · 2 hrs 15 minROUTE · INT to ZRHSTATUS · IncludedWORTH KNOWING · Book the restaurant table for the way down, not the way up. Going up, you want the summit and the terrace while the morning light is still on the peaks; coming down, you have the time to sit. Check the summit webcam at breakfast - the cable car runs in most weather, but on a clouded-in day you pay for the view and get white.
DAY 06

St Beatus Caves and Oberhofen Castle

Waterfalls inside the shore - A tower standing in the lake
INTERLAKEN
Oberhofen Castle
MORNING
The St Beatus Caves, cut into the Lake Thun shore a short way from Interlaken - a kilometre of lit passage past underground waterfalls, with a gorge walk outside it. Included.
ACROSS THE LAKE
A boat along the north shore to Oberhofen. Lake Thun is the quieter of the two Interlaken lakes and this is the prettier side of it. Included.
OBERHOFEN CASTLE
The one with the tower standing in the water - the single most photographed castle in the Bernese Oberland, with a park of specimen trees running back from the shore. Entry included.
LAST AFTERNOON
Back by boat with the Niesen pyramid ahead of you. The park at Oberhofen is free and open even when the castle rooms are not, and it is a good place to do nothing for an hour.
STAY · InterlakenMEALS · BreakfastON THE WATER · About 2 hrsSTATUS · All includedWORTH KNOWING · The caves stay a steady 8 to 10 degrees inside, no matter the weather, so bring a layer instead of walking in from the sun in a T-shirt. Oberhofen Castle opens mid-May to October and is closed on Mondays in season - it is the narrowest window on this whole itinerary, and the reason we recommend mid-May onwards.
DAY 07

Departure from Zurich

Interlaken to the terminal - 2 hrs 15 min - One change
DEPARTURE
zurich airport
BREAKFAST
At the hotel - the sixth and last one.
RAIL
Interlaken Ost to Zurich main station via Bern, then ten minutes to the airport, arriving directly under the terminal. About two and a quarter hours in total.
TIMING
Allow five hours from the hotel. Trains are roughly hourly on the Interlaken leg, so there is one to catch comfortably either side of your target.
EARLY FLIGHTS
If you depart before 10 AM, ask us about a last night in Zurich instead of Interlaken. Quoted separately.

Your trip is planned based on current availability and supplier schedules. We will confirm final arrangements in your booking confirmation.

Visual journey

Why this route works

Boats instead of coaches
Four of the six days reach their main sight by water - Lake Zurich, Lake Lucerne twice, Lake Thun twice. Nothing on a Swiss lake boat is rushed, there is no queue to join and no guide to follow, and you can sit outside for an hour without anyone asking you to move along. For a honeymoon that matters more than one extra summit.
One summit, and it is the right one
Schilthorn at 2,970m has a restaurant that rotates while you sit in it and a view that takes in the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau across the valley. It is a two-hour journey each way from Interlaken, so it is a full day - which is exactly why there is only one summit on this trip instead of three.
Three unbroken nights at the end
Zurich for one night, Lucerne for two, then three in Interlaken. The order is deliberate - the trip gets slower as it goes, and the last three days all come out of the same room, so the end of the week is the part with no packing in it.

Full policy details

Cancellation Policy
  • 10 or more calendar days before departure: a 30% cancellation charge applies to the eligible package amount. Choose a 70% refund in USDC or 100% of the eligible amount as Atravelx Travel Credit.
  • Less than 10 calendar days before departure: 100% non-refundable. No refund or Travel Credit is ordinarily issued.
  • After travel commences, or no-show: non-refundable. No refund or Travel Credit is ordinarily available.
  • Days are counted as calendar days to the scheduled departure date, in UTC (Coordinated Universal Time). The timestamp on your written request fixes when Atravelx received it.
  • Cancellation requests must be made in writing through an authorised Atravelx channel: your concierge, info@atravelx.com or WhatsApp +91 92500 00511. A phone call alone does not cancel a booking until it is confirmed in writing.
  • Quote the booking reference, the lead traveller's name and the services affected. Atravelx may ask for identity or payment verification before acting on a request.
  • A reason is not needed to qualify under the 10-day window.
  • Cancelling some travellers, rooms, nights or services is a package amendment, not a cancellation. It does not qualify for the 10-day refund or credit on its own, and it can change the per-person price for the remaining travellers.
Atravelx Travel Credit
  • Travel Credit is issued as an Atravelx Credit Note for 100% of the eligible amount actually paid, denominated in USDC.
  • The 30% cancellation charge is waived when you choose Travel Credit instead of a refund.
  • Credit can be used towards any eligible service booked through Atravelx: holiday packages, stays, flights, transfers, sightseeing, car rental, visa assistance and other eligible services.
  • Travel Credit is non-cash. It cannot be withdrawn, exchanged for cryptocurrency or fiat currency, or transferred to another person, unless Atravelx agrees in writing.
  • The validity period and expiry date are stated on the Credit Note.
  • Prices at the time of the new booking apply. Travel Credit does not hold the same hotel, room, destination, dates, itinerary, supplier, activity, package or price.
  • If the new booking costs more, you pay the difference in USDC. If it costs less, the balance stays on the Credit Note under its terms.
  • Once you choose Travel Credit, the choice is final. It is not later converted into a refund.
Date Change Policy
  • Request date changes 10 or more calendar days before the scheduled departure date.
  • A date change is not guaranteed. It depends on hotel, transfer and activity availability, supplier approval, revised room rates, seasonal pricing, blackout dates, peak-season supplements, transport costs, fare differences, supplier amendment charges and revised itinerary costs.
  • If the revised package costs more, you pay the difference in USDC. Supplier amendment or date-change charges may also apply.
  • A date change is confirmed only when Atravelx confirms the revised arrangements in writing.
  • Requests made less than 10 calendar days before departure depend on supplier approval and cannot be guaranteed.
  • A postponement or date change is not a cancellation. It does not by itself create a refund or Travel Credit entitlement.
Bundled Holiday Packages
  • Atravelx holiday packages are booked and priced as bundled travel arrangements made up of several interconnected services.
  • Individual components of a confirmed package cannot ordinarily be cancelled separately.
  • Removing a service does not automatically entitle you to a proportionate refund or Travel Credit.
  • Any request to remove, replace or modify a component is treated as a package amendment, subject to supplier approval, availability, revised pricing, amounts recoverable and applicable charges.
  • A value shown against an individual service does not mean it was separately contracted or can be independently cancelled.
Visa & Travel Documentation
  • Travellers are responsible for a valid passport, the right visa, transit visas, entry permits, immigration documents, health documentation and any other paperwork required by the destination or a transit country.
  • Visa decisions are made solely by the relevant government, embassy, consulate or immigration authority. Atravelx does not guarantee approval, processing time or appointment availability.
  • A visa refusal, delay or failure to obtain a visa does not override the cancellation conditions unless Atravelx confirms otherwise in writing.
  • Government, embassy, visa application centre, biometric, courier and processing fees may be non-refundable once paid or submitted.
Refund Processing & Timeline
  • Atravelx acknowledges a cancellation request within 2 working days. Acknowledgement confirms receipt, not eligibility or amount. After reviewing the booking, Atravelx confirms in writing which services are cancelled, the refundable and non-refundable components, the deductions and the refund amount.
  • Approved refunds are processed within 45 working days from the date Atravelx confirms in writing that the refund is approved.
  • The 45 days do not run from the booking date, the date you first asked to cancel, or the departure date.
  • Working days exclude Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays in the United States and India.
  • Refunds are calculated and paid in USDC. The refund is the eligible package amount in USDC as shown on your invoice, less the cancellation charge and any supplier deductions.
  • If you paid in another cryptocurrency, the refund is still the USDC value of the eligible amount at the time of payment, not the number of coins you sent. Atravelx is not liable for changes in the market value of any coin between payment and refund.
  • Refunds are sent to the wallet address the payment came from, on the same network. If that is not possible, you may nominate another wallet, which Atravelx verifies in writing before sending. Atravelx is not responsible for funds sent to a wallet address you supplied incorrectly.
  • If you paid by card or bank transfer through an Atravelx payment partner, the refund goes back to that payment method where the partner supports it. Otherwise another method is agreed in writing.
  • Blockchain confirmations, payment partners, card issuers and banks may add time before the funds show in your wallet or account.
  • Where Atravelx cancels a confirmed booking for reasons within its reasonable control, all amounts received for the cancelled services are refunded in full, initiated within 7 working days. An alternative itinerary or Travel Credit may be offered, but you are not required to accept it instead of the refund.
  • An approved refund is not replaced with Travel Credit unless you expressly agree, or the supplier itself provides only a credit or voucher under conditions disclosed before booking.
Supplier-Specific & Non-Refundable Services
  • Certain services carry their own cancellation, refund or amendment terms: airline tickets, visa fees, embassy, consulate and visa-centre charges, travel insurance, rail tickets and passes, cruise and ferry bookings, event, concert, sports and attraction tickets, special-event bookings, non-refundable hotel rates, supplier deposits and any service identified as non-refundable.
  • Where supplier-specific conditions were communicated in the quotation, invoice, voucher, booking confirmation or service conditions before payment, those conditions apply to that service.
  • Blockchain network fees paid when you sent your payment are not part of the package amount and are not refundable.
No-Show, Unused & Partially Used Services
  • No refund or Travel Credit is ordinarily provided for: no-shows, cancellation after travel has commenced, voluntarily unused services, partly completed holidays, missed hotel nights, missed transfers, missed activities or sightseeing, missed trains or other transport, traveller delays, failure to report at the required time, services missed because of documentation issues, or services missed for reasons attributable to the traveller.
  • If a supplier voluntarily approves a refund in an exceptional case, Atravelx passes on the recoverable amount in USDC under the applicable supplier and booking conditions.
Booking Acceptance
  • By confirming a booking and making payment, you accept the cancellation, refund, date-change, bundled-package and Travel Credit conditions in this policy.
  • Conditions stated in writing for an individual booking (quotation, invoice, voucher or booking confirmation) supplement this policy. Where a supplier's terms are stricter and were disclosed before payment, they apply to that service.
  • A booking is governed by the version of this policy shown on the package page on the booking date, unless a later version is more favourable to you or Atravelx agrees otherwise in writing.
  • For events beyond Atravelx's reasonable control (severe weather, natural disasters, epidemics, war, civil unrest, strikes, government restrictions, border or airport closures, supplier insolvency and similar), refunds, credits, postponements or alternatives depend on the affected supplier's policy and the amounts recoverable. Atravelx helps coordinate with the suppliers.
  • Nothing in this policy restricts any statutory right available to a consumer under applicable law.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from your Budget Honeymoon package?

Same three cities, same six nights and the same 3-star hotels - the difference is entirely what you do. That route climbs Mt Rigi at 1,798m and Harder Kulm at 1,322m, and its water is Lake Brienz and the Giessbach Falls. This one has one far bigger summit, Schilthorn at 2,970m with the revolving restaurant looking across at the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau. It adds the Hammetschwand lift, four lake journeys across three lakes, two lakeside castles and the St Beatus Caves - none of which are in the budget route. The gap is about twenty-three thousand rupees and every rupee of it is extra tickets, not a better room.

Can this Switzerland Honeymoon itinerary be customised?
Yes, this Switzerland Honeymoon itinerary can be customised for honeymoon, family travel, hotel upgrades, flight city, activity preferences, number of nights and budget.
Is a 3-star hotel in Switzerland actually fine?

Yes, and on this route it is the right trade. Swiss 3-star properties are clean, well-run, and centrally placed, and the star rating there reflects facilities like room service and a restaurant rather than standards of cleanliness. What you give up is space, a bar and sometimes a lift. What you keep is a central location in all three towns, which matters more here than anywhere - the lake boats, the steamer quay and Interlaken Ost are all meant to be reachable on foot. Every booking requests a double bed, a higher floor, and a quiet side. If you would rather have a 4-star, we will quote it, and it adds roughly twenty-eight thousand to the package.

What is the best time to book this Switzerland Honeymoon tour package?
The best time to book this Switzerland Honeymoon tour package depends on season, airfare, visa timeline and hotel availability. For peak dates, early booking usually helps secure better rates and better hotel choices.
Does Atravelq help with visa guidance for Switzerland Honeymoon?
For international trips, Atravelq provides visa guidance and document support. Visa approval depends on embassy rules, traveller profile and submitted documents.
Only one summit? Is that enough for Switzerland?

It is a deliberate choice, and Schilthorn is a big one - 2,970m, four cable car stages, a restaurant that rotates while you eat, and the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau lined up across the valley. A summit day in Switzerland is a full day: two hours up, two hours down. Three of them in a week and you spend your honeymoon in cable car queues. This route puts one proper summit in the middle and gives the rest of the days to water, which is the slower and in our experience the more memorable half of Switzerland. If you want more altitude, Jungfraujoch is on the add-on list and our Jungfrau Adventure route is built around three summits.

What is the Hammetschwand lift, really?

An open lift shaft bolted to the outside of a cliff above Lake Lucerne, 153m straight up, built in 1905 and still the highest exterior lift in Europe. You walk the Felsenweg - a level path cut into the rock face with the lake several hundred metres below - and then the lift takes you the last 153m in under a minute, with glass on three sides. It is the single most unusual thing on this itinerary and almost no package from India includes it, mostly because it needs a boat and a funicular to reach. It runs 3 April to late November.

Is only one dinner included?

Yes, and we would rather say it plainly here than have you find out on Day 2. Breakfast is included every morning. Dinner is included exactly once: the lakeside three-course dinner in Interlaken on Day 4. Every other evening you choose and pay for yourselves, which in Switzerland is usually CHF 30 to 60 per person for something ordinary and good. A second dinner is on the add-on list with its price if you would rather have two arranged.

When should we travel?

Mid-May to the end of October, and that is firmer than on most of our routes. Oberhofen Castle opens mid-May and closes in October, and it shuts on Mondays in season - that is the narrowest window here. Spiez Castle runs 1 May to 31 October. Within that, mid-May to late June and all of September are the best weeks: everything open, boats on the full timetable, and hotel rates at their lowest. July and August work but cost noticeably more and the Lake Lucerne boats get busy. Outside mid-May to October we substitute where we have to and tell you exactly what changes before you pay.

Why a Half Fare Card and not a Swiss Travel Pass?

We checked both for this exact route, because a pass makes every lake boat free and that looked like the obvious answer on a lakes trip. It still loses. A Swiss Travel Pass is a large fixed cost against four short boat legs, and across this itinerary it works out roughly CHF 110 per person more than the card plus the tickets. The card also keeps working for a month, so anything you add later is half price too. If you add Jungfraujoch or a lot more rail, ask us to redo the comparison - the answer can flip.

Will we get a double bed, and can we get a lake view?

We request a double bed with every booking, along with a higher floor and a quiet side. We cannot promise it, because room allocation happens at the property on the day. Your quotation states which requests each property has confirmed in writing and which are still requests. A lake-view room is a different thing - it is a paid supplement, quoted per night per property, and it is worth asking about for the two Lucerne nights in particular, where the view is across to the Burgenstock ridge you go up the next morning.

How much walking is there?

Less than most Swiss itineraries. The three old towns are flat and walkable; every lake journey is a seated trip, and Schilthorn is reached entirely by cable car. The two real walks are both optional and both easy: the Felsenweg on Burgenstock is about twenty-five minutes on a level path, and the castle parks at Spiez and Oberhofen are flat. The St Beatus Caves have steps and a steady gradient inside, so tell us at enquiry if that is a problem and we will swap that morning.

Do Indian passport holders need a visa for Switzerland?

Yes. Switzerland is in the Schengen area, so Indian passport holders need a Schengen visa before travelling. We help with the documentation, the hotel confirmations, the itinerary letter and the appointment, but the visa fee and the VFS Global service charges are not included in the package price, and the decision is the consulate's alone. Appointment waiting times vary throughout the year, so apply early and reconfirm the current requirements for your travel dates rather than relying on this page.

Are flights included?

No. This is a land package. International and domestic flights are quoted separately, so you can use your own airline, miles or a cheaper routing if you have one. The price on this page covers the six nights, the rail card and every ticket on the itinerary, all four lake journeys, Schilthorn, both castles, the caves, the one dinner, the tourist tax and GST - everything from arriving at Zurich Airport to leaving from it.
