DAY 01

Arrive Paris, and the tower after dark

CDG to the city by train - Three nights begin - Sparkle on the hour
PARIS
Eiffel Tower lit at night
ARRIVAL
Charles de Gaulle has its own station under the terminal. The RER B runs into central Paris in about thirty-five minutes and your ticket is already issued.
CHECK-IN
Three nights in one room, so this is the last time you touch the suitcases until Day 4.
EVENING
The Champ de Mars after dark. The tower carries 20,000 bulbs that sparkle for five minutes on every hour until one in the morning, and the lawn in front of it is free to sit on.
DINNER
Yours to choose. The streets behind Rue Cler are where people who live in the seventh actually eat, and they cost a fraction of the places facing the tower.
Hotels

Central Paris, 3-Star

3 nights - Breakfast - On a metro line, walking distance to a landmark

  • Stay Three nights in a central 3-star double room with a double bed and breakfast, priced per person, two adults to the room.
  • Position On a metro line with a direct or one-change run to the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and Gare de Lyon, because you leave from Gare de Lyon on Day 4 with your luggage.
  • Being straight with you Paris rooms are small by Indian standards - a central 3-star double is usually compact, and that is normal rather than a downgrade. We book for position and cleanliness over square metres, because on a three-night stay you are out all day.
  • Meals here Breakfast all three mornings. No dinner is included on any night of this package, in either city.
Transfers

Charles de Gaulle to central Paris

About 35 min by RER B - Ticket pre-issued

  • At the airport Both main terminals have a station. Follow the signs for "Paris par train" and the RER B; the trains run every ten to fifteen minutes.
  • Route About thirty-five minutes into the centre, then a short metro hop or a walk to the hotel. The ticket is issued before you travel.
  • No fixed time Nothing is booked for arrival day except your room, so a delayed flight costs you nothing.
  • Private car option Available as an add-on if you would rather not take a train off a long flight with luggage. Quoted separately, and on arrival day it is the upgrade most couples actually use.
Activities

Eiffel Tower Summit and Seine Cruise (Included)

Top level by lift - One hour on the river

  • Eiffel Tower, included Lift to the summit, which is the top of the three levels, on a timed slot booked before you travel. Not the stairs, and not the second floor only - the summit.
  • Seine cruise, included An hour on the river past Notre-Dame, the Louvre, the Musee d'Orsay and Pont Alexandre III. Open-top in summer, glass-roofed in winter.
  • The timing that matters Your tower slot skips the ticket queue, not the security check. The summit closes in high wind, which is the one thing that can stop this day; if that happens the second level stays open and the tower adjusts your ticket on the spot.
  • Not included Food or drink at the tower restaurants, and the champagne bar at the summit. Both are there if you want them.

Trocadero across the river gives you the whole tower in one frame, and the Champ de Mars gives it to you from below - do Trocadero on Day 2 in daylight and the lawn tonight, not the other way round.
DAY 02

Up the Eiffel Tower, then the Seine from the water

Summit by lift - Trocadero - One-hour river cruise
PARIS
Eiffel Tower summit looking along the Seine
EVENING
Yours. The Seine banks are UNESCO listed and lit after dark, and walking them costs nothing.
MORNING
Trocadero first, for the photograph everyone comes home with - the full 330 metres across the river with nothing in the way.
THE TOWER
Lift to the summit, included. It was built for the 1889 World's Fair and meant to stand twenty years; the city kept it because the aerials on top turned out to be useful. The second level has the better view of Paris, the summit has the better feeling.
AFTERNOON
An hour on the Seine, included. The boat passes Notre-Dame, the Louvre, the Musee d'Orsay and Pont Alexandre III, which is the most ornate of the thirty-seven bridges in the city.
Hotels

Central Lucerne, 3-Star

3 nights - Breakfast - Old town and station both on foot

  • Stay Three nights in a central 3-star double room with a double bed and breakfast.
  • Position Inside or beside the old town, so the bridges, the Lion Monument, the wall towers and the boat pier are all walking distance, and the Engelberg train leaves from the station you arrived at.
  • Why Lucerne and not a mountain village It is the one Swiss base that gives you a lake, an old town and a 3,000-metre summit within an hour, at a room rate the village resorts cannot match. The saving goes into the package rather than into the view from the window.
  • Note Lucerne rooms sell out early for July and August. Your confirmed property and room category are stated in writing on your quotation before you pay anything.
Transfers

Paris to Lucerne, by TGV Lyria

About 4 hrs 15 min - One change at Basel - The only hotel move

  • Paris to Basel A direct TGV Lyria from Gare de Lyon, a little over three hours at up to 320 km/h, six departures a day. Seats are reserved and issued with your documents.
  • The border Basel SBB has French and Swiss sections inside one building, so you change platform rather than station. Passports are usually checked on board rather than at a desk.
  • Basel to Lucerne About an hour, running south past Olten. Your onward ticket is pre-issued and the connection is built with a sensible gap, not a four-minute dash.
  • Luggage With you throughout, and this is the only time you move it in seven days. There are racks at the end of each TGV carriage and overhead space on the Swiss train.
Activities

The Louvre (Included)

Entry included - Closed Tuesdays - Use the Carrousel door

  • Included Entry to the Louvre, the most visited museum in the world and a royal palace for six hundred years before that.
  • Closed Tuesdays If your Day 3 falls on a Tuesday we swap the Louvre and the tower days round. We check that against your dates at quotation rather than leaving you to find out.
  • The entrance to use The Carrousel du Louvre entrance under the shopping arcade, not the pyramid in the courtyard. Same museum, same ticket, a fraction of the queue.
  • How to do it Pick three or four things and leave. The collection runs to several hundred thousand pieces and the people who try to see it all come out having enjoyed none of it.

The summit closes in high winds, which is the one thing nobody can plan around; if it does, the second level stays open, and the tower adjusts your ticket. Do the cruise in the late afternoon rather than midday, when the light along the river is better and the boats are emptier.
DAY 03

The Louvre, the island, and Montmartre at sunset

Museum entry included - Notre-Dame - Sacre-Coeur
PARIS
glass pyramid in the Louvre courtyard
EVENING
Yours. Montmartre's side streets are where to eat tonight rather than the square itself, which is priced for the view.
MORNING
The Louvre, included. It was a royal palace for six hundred years before it was a museum, and the glass pyramid in the courtyard went up in 1989. Pick three or four things and walk out; nobody has ever finished it.
MIDDAY
Out through the Tuileries gardens, over the river to the Ile de la Cite, and round Notre-Dame. The cathedral is free to enter and the queue moves faster than it looks.
LATE AFTERNOON
Montmartre, the 130-metre hill that is the highest point in Paris. Sacre-Coeur is free to go into, the steps in front of it are where the city watches the sun go down, and Place du Tertre behind it is still full of painters.
Hotels

4-Star, Views and Honeymoon Requests

Quoted before you pay - requested, never promised

  • Stay 4-star, all six nights: Both cities moved up a category, which in Paris mostly buys you a larger room and in Lucerne mostly buys you a better position. You can also upgrade one city and leave the other at 3-star. All three figures are in your quotation.
  • A lake-view room in Lucerne Quoted on request rather than listed, because it depends on the property and the month. This is the one room upgrade on the trip that genuinely changes the stay.
  • Honeymoon requests If you are travelling for a honeymoon, tell us and we will request the usual touches with both hotels - a higher floor, a quieter room, flowers or a cake on arrival. These are requests passed to the property, not things we can confirm in advance, and we would rather say that than let you expect them.
  • Single travellers A single occupancy supplement applies and is quoted separately. The headline price on this page is per person, two adults in a double room.
Transfers

What Is Issued, and Why There Is No Rail Pass

Every leg pre-issued - Nothing to buy at a window

  • What you get The airport train in Paris, three days of Paris metro travel, the TGV Lyria seats to Basel, Basel to Lucerne, the Engelberg return for the Titlis day, the lake cruise, and Lucerne to Zurich Airport with the Zurich stop built in.
  • Why no Swiss rail pass We run the arithmetic on every route rather than putting a pass on everything. With only three Swiss days and one summit, neither a Swiss Travel Pass nor a Half Fare Card pays for itself here - both come out dearer than buying the tickets outright, so we buy them outright and the saving sits in your price.
  • Why the Zurich stop is free A Swiss point-to-point ticket is valid all day and lets you break the journey on the way, so your half-day in Zurich on the last day costs nothing extra and needs no hotel night.
  • If you extend Add Swiss days or a second summit and the arithmetic flips. Tell us at enquiry and we will re-run it and put a card in if it actually pays.
Activities

Lake Lucerne Cruise and Mt Titlis (Included)

The lake on Day 5 - 3,020m on Day 6

  • Lake Lucerne cruise, included A cruise from the Lucerne pier, which is two minutes from the station. The lake has four arms and mountains on all of them, and the older boats on this route are paddle steamers.
  • Mt Titlis, included The full return from Lucerne - the Engelberg train and every cable car stage, including the Rotair, the world's first revolving cable car, which turns through a full circle on the way up.
  • What is in the Titlis ticket The Cliff Walk, a 100-metre suspension bridge at 3,041m and the highest in Europe, and the glacier cave cut 150 metres into the ice. Neither is an extra.
  • Season Titlis runs from early January to late October and again from late November to late December. There is a maintenance gap in late autumn, and we will not book your Lucerne days inside it.

DAY 04

Paris to Lucerne by train

About 4 hrs 15 min in total - One change at Basel - Three nights begin
LUCERNE
TGV Lyria train paris
EVENING
The lakefront promenade, with Pilatus on one side of the water and Rigi on the other. Free, flat and about as good as a first evening in Switzerland gets.
MORNING
Gare de Lyon to Basel on a direct TGV Lyria, a little over three hours at up to 320 km/h. Six run a day, so there is a comfortable one whatever time you want to leave.
BASEL
The platform where France ends and Switzerland begins is inside the same station. One change, about twenty minutes, and the train for Lucerne is usually across the platform.
AFTERNOON
An hour on to Lucerne. The station opens straight onto the lake, and the old town is across the bridge. Check in for three nights.
Transfers

Lucerne to Zurich Airport, via Zurich

1 hr 10 min of rail - Zurich stop built into the ticket

  • Route Lucerne to Zurich main station, about an hour, then ten minutes to the airport, arriving directly under the terminal.
  • Left luggage Zurich main station has lockers, so the old town half-day happens without your cases.
  • Buffer Allow four hours from the Lucerne hotel without the Zurich stop, seven with it. We plan this day around your actual flight time.
  • Morning flight Then this does not work, and we move the last night from Lucerne to Zurich instead. It changes the price and is quoted before you book, not afterwards.
Activities

What You Walk To, for Nothing

Trocadero - Montmartre - Notre-Dame - Two medieval bridges

  • Paris Trocadero for the tower across the river, the Champ de Mars for the sparkle at night, Montmartre and the Sacre-Coeur steps at sunset, Place du Tertre behind it, the Tuileries, and Notre-Dame on the Ile de la Cite. Not one of them charges entry.
  • The Seine banks UNESCO listed and lit after dark. The stretch between Pont Neuf and Pont Alexandre III is the one to walk, and it is the best free hour in Paris.
  • Lucerne Chapel Bridge from 1333, the Spreuer Bridge from 1408 with its painted ceiling panels, the Lion Monument, the painted squares, and four climbable towers on the Musegg Wall - roughly April to early November.
  • Zurich, on the last day: Lindenhof, the Niederdorf lanes and the lake promenade at Burkliplatz, all within twenty minutes of the station and all free.

There is a cafe car on board, but it is expensive; the bakery on the station concourse is not.
DAY 05

Lucerne - the bridge, the lion, and the lake

Chapel Bridge 1333 - Lion Monument - Lake cruise included
LUCERNE
Chapel Bridge and the Water Tower
EVENING
Yours. The old town cellars are a five-minute walk and no dinner is included on any night of this package.
MORNING
Chapel Bridge, built in 1333 and the oldest covered wooden bridge in Europe, with the octagonal Water Tower set into it. Free, two minutes from the station, and emptiest before nine.
MIDDAY
The Lion Monument, cut into the rock in 1821. Mark Twain called it the saddest piece of stone in the world. Then the Musegg Wall, where four of the nine medieval towers are open to climb with no ticket.
AFTERNOON
A cruise on Lake Lucerne, included. The lake has four arms and mountains on all of them, and the older boats on this route are paddle steamers with their engines open to view.

Upgrades and What You Can Add

Each one priced in your quotation

  • Versailles, a full day The palace, the Hall of Mirrors and the gardens, about forty minutes out on the RER C. It is a whole day rather than a half, so it replaces a Paris day rather than being added to one.
  • A Seine dinner cruise The one evening most couples ask to add. Dinner is not in any of our packages, so if you want one arranged rather than chosen on the night, this is the way.
  • Disneyland Paris, a full day Forty minutes out on the RER A. Worth saying plainly: it is a long day and it takes a Paris day away from you.
  • A second Swiss summit Mt Rigi with the lake paddle steamer, or Mt Pilatus as a round trip by boat, cogwheel and cable car. Either fits the spare Lucerne afternoon.
  • First class on the TGV Lyria A wider seat and a meal served at it on the Paris to Basel leg. On a four-hour travel day some couples think it is worth it.
  • Extra nights, or a 4-star upgrade In either city. Lucerne is the cheaper night of the two by a clear margin, which is worth knowing before you choose where to add one.
STAY · LucerneMEALS · BreakfastCRUISE · IncludedWALL TOWERS · Free to climbTYPE · OptionalPRICED · Per personMOST ADDED · Seine dinner cruiseSTATUS · Add-onWORTH KNOWING · The wall towers open roughly from April to the start of November; outside that, you get the wall from the outside, which is the better half of it anyway. On the lake, sit at the stern rather than the bow - the mountains come into view behind you as the boat pulls away, and that is the photograph. Ask at the pier which departure is a paddle steamer; not all of them are.
DAY 06

Mt Titlis - the revolving cable car to 3,020m

45 min to Engelberg - Rotair - Cliff Walk and glacier cave
LUCERNE
Rotair cable car over the glacier
MORNING
Forty-five minutes by train to Engelberg, a monastery village at the head of its valley, then the cable cars up. The whole climb is included.
THE ROTAIR
The last stage is the world's first revolving cable car, opened in 1992. The floor turns through a full circle during the five-minute ride, so both of you see everything without moving.
AT THE TOP
The Cliff Walk, a hundred-metre suspension bridge at 3,041m and the highest in Europe, and the glacier cave cut 150 metres into the ice below the surface. Both are part of the ticket.
AFTERNOON
Back down whenever you like. Engelberg itself is worth half an hour before the train - the Benedictine monastery has been there since 1120 and the valley floor is flat and quiet.
STAY · LucerneMEALS · BreakfastSUMMIT · 3,020mCLIMB · IncludedWORTH KNOWING · Go up early. The cloud builds from late morning on Titlis more often than it clears, and the Cliff Walk closes in high winds - it is a suspension bridge, so that happens more than you would think. There is snow on top in every month of the year, so take a jacket and closed shoes even in July. The glacier cave is a steady few degrees below freezing, which catches people out in shorts.
DAY 07

Zurich on the way out, then home

1 hr to Zurich - Old town on foot - 10 min to the terminal
DEPARTURE
Limmat and the Zurich old town from the Lindenhof terrace
MORNING
Check out, an hour to Zurich, bags into a station locker. One ticket covers Lucerne to the airport with this stop built into it.
ZURICH
Lindenhof, the flat terrace where the Romans put their customs post, then the Niederdorf lanes down to the Limmat and the lake promenade at Burkliplatz. All free, all within twenty minutes of the station.
AFTERNOON
Ten minutes from the main station to Zurich Airport, arriving directly under the terminal.
TIMING
Allow four hours from the Lucerne hotel if you skip Zurich, seven if you take the stop. We build this day around the flight time you give us.
STAY · -MEALS · BreakfastRAIL · 1 hr 10 min *BUFFER · 4 hrs minimumWORTH KNOWING · This day works for an afternoon or evening flight. For a morning departure, tell us, and we will move the last night from Lucerne to Zurich instead, which changes the price and is quoted before you book. Swiss trains on the Lucerne line run roughly hourly, so there is one to catch either side of your target comfortably.

Important Information

Your trip is planned based on current availability and supplier schedules. We will confirm final arrangements in your booking confirmation.

Visual journey

Why this route works

One train between the two countries, not a second flight
Most Paris and Switzerland packages sold from India fly you between them, which means a second airport, a second set of baggage queues and most of a day gone. A direct TGV Lyria leaves Paris Gare de Lyon and reaches Basel in a little over three hours, and Lucerne is an hour on from there. You board in the middle of Paris and get off in the middle of Switzerland, with the countryside in between instead of a departure lounge. It is also the cheaper way to do it, which is part of why this package prices where it does.
Three nights in each city, so neither is a stopover
The common mistake on a two-country trip is two nights here and two nights there, which means four half-days lost to checking in and out. Three and three gives you two full days in Paris and two in Lucerne with nothing to pack, and the one travel day in the middle is a train ride rather than a scramble. On a trip people take once, that difference is the whole experience.
One visa, and the paperwork is the part we handle
France and Switzerland are both in the Schengen area, so this is one visa application, not two. Which consulate you apply to depends on where you spend the most nights, and with three and three it falls to your country of first entry. That is the kind of detail that gets applications rejected, and it is in our documentation support rather than left to you to work out.

Full policy details

Cancellation Policy
  • 10 or more calendar days before departure: a 30% cancellation charge applies to the eligible package amount. Choose a 70% refund in USDC or 100% of the eligible amount as Atravelx Travel Credit.
  • Less than 10 calendar days before departure: 100% non-refundable. No refund or Travel Credit is ordinarily issued.
  • After travel commences, or no-show: non-refundable. No refund or Travel Credit is ordinarily available.
  • Days are counted as calendar days to the scheduled departure date, in UTC (Coordinated Universal Time). The timestamp on your written request fixes when Atravelx received it.
  • Cancellation requests must be made in writing through an authorised Atravelx channel: your concierge, info@atravelx.com or WhatsApp +91 92500 00511. A phone call alone does not cancel a booking until it is confirmed in writing.
  • Quote the booking reference, the lead traveller's name and the services affected. Atravelx may ask for identity or payment verification before acting on a request.
  • A reason is not needed to qualify under the 10-day window.
  • Cancelling some travellers, rooms, nights or services is a package amendment, not a cancellation. It does not qualify for the 10-day refund or credit on its own, and it can change the per-person price for the remaining travellers.
Atravelx Travel Credit
  • Travel Credit is issued as an Atravelx Credit Note for 100% of the eligible amount actually paid, denominated in USDC.
  • The 30% cancellation charge is waived when you choose Travel Credit instead of a refund.
  • Credit can be used towards any eligible service booked through Atravelx: holiday packages, stays, flights, transfers, sightseeing, car rental, visa assistance and other eligible services.
  • Travel Credit is non-cash. It cannot be withdrawn, exchanged for cryptocurrency or fiat currency, or transferred to another person, unless Atravelx agrees in writing.
  • The validity period and expiry date are stated on the Credit Note.
  • Prices at the time of the new booking apply. Travel Credit does not hold the same hotel, room, destination, dates, itinerary, supplier, activity, package or price.
  • If the new booking costs more, you pay the difference in USDC. If it costs less, the balance stays on the Credit Note under its terms.
  • Once you choose Travel Credit, the choice is final. It is not later converted into a refund.
Date Change Policy
  • Request date changes 10 or more calendar days before the scheduled departure date.
  • A date change is not guaranteed. It depends on hotel, transfer and activity availability, supplier approval, revised room rates, seasonal pricing, blackout dates, peak-season supplements, transport costs, fare differences, supplier amendment charges and revised itinerary costs.
  • If the revised package costs more, you pay the difference in USDC. Supplier amendment or date-change charges may also apply.
  • A date change is confirmed only when Atravelx confirms the revised arrangements in writing.
  • Requests made less than 10 calendar days before departure depend on supplier approval and cannot be guaranteed.
  • A postponement or date change is not a cancellation. It does not by itself create a refund or Travel Credit entitlement.
Bundled Holiday Packages
  • Atravelx holiday packages are booked and priced as bundled travel arrangements made up of several interconnected services.
  • Individual components of a confirmed package cannot ordinarily be cancelled separately.
  • Removing a service does not automatically entitle you to a proportionate refund or Travel Credit.
  • Any request to remove, replace or modify a component is treated as a package amendment, subject to supplier approval, availability, revised pricing, amounts recoverable and applicable charges.
  • A value shown against an individual service does not mean it was separately contracted or can be independently cancelled.
Visa & Travel Documentation
  • Travellers are responsible for a valid passport, the right visa, transit visas, entry permits, immigration documents, health documentation and any other paperwork required by the destination or a transit country.
  • Visa decisions are made solely by the relevant government, embassy, consulate or immigration authority. Atravelx does not guarantee approval, processing time or appointment availability.
  • A visa refusal, delay or failure to obtain a visa does not override the cancellation conditions unless Atravelx confirms otherwise in writing.
  • Government, embassy, visa application centre, biometric, courier and processing fees may be non-refundable once paid or submitted.
Refund Processing & Timeline
  • Atravelx acknowledges a cancellation request within 2 working days. Acknowledgement confirms receipt, not eligibility or amount. After reviewing the booking, Atravelx confirms in writing which services are cancelled, the refundable and non-refundable components, the deductions and the refund amount.
  • Approved refunds are processed within 45 working days from the date Atravelx confirms in writing that the refund is approved.
  • The 45 days do not run from the booking date, the date you first asked to cancel, or the departure date.
  • Working days exclude Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays in the United States and India.
  • Refunds are calculated and paid in USDC. The refund is the eligible package amount in USDC as shown on your invoice, less the cancellation charge and any supplier deductions.
  • If you paid in another cryptocurrency, the refund is still the USDC value of the eligible amount at the time of payment, not the number of coins you sent. Atravelx is not liable for changes in the market value of any coin between payment and refund.
  • Refunds are sent to the wallet address the payment came from, on the same network. If that is not possible, you may nominate another wallet, which Atravelx verifies in writing before sending. Atravelx is not responsible for funds sent to a wallet address you supplied incorrectly.
  • If you paid by card or bank transfer through an Atravelx payment partner, the refund goes back to that payment method where the partner supports it. Otherwise another method is agreed in writing.
  • Blockchain confirmations, payment partners, card issuers and banks may add time before the funds show in your wallet or account.
  • Where Atravelx cancels a confirmed booking for reasons within its reasonable control, all amounts received for the cancelled services are refunded in full, initiated within 7 working days. An alternative itinerary or Travel Credit may be offered, but you are not required to accept it instead of the refund.
  • An approved refund is not replaced with Travel Credit unless you expressly agree, or the supplier itself provides only a credit or voucher under conditions disclosed before booking.
Supplier-Specific & Non-Refundable Services
  • Certain services carry their own cancellation, refund or amendment terms: airline tickets, visa fees, embassy, consulate and visa-centre charges, travel insurance, rail tickets and passes, cruise and ferry bookings, event, concert, sports and attraction tickets, special-event bookings, non-refundable hotel rates, supplier deposits and any service identified as non-refundable.
  • Where supplier-specific conditions were communicated in the quotation, invoice, voucher, booking confirmation or service conditions before payment, those conditions apply to that service.
  • Blockchain network fees paid when you sent your payment are not part of the package amount and are not refundable.
No-Show, Unused & Partially Used Services
  • No refund or Travel Credit is ordinarily provided for: no-shows, cancellation after travel has commenced, voluntarily unused services, partly completed holidays, missed hotel nights, missed transfers, missed activities or sightseeing, missed trains or other transport, traveller delays, failure to report at the required time, services missed because of documentation issues, or services missed for reasons attributable to the traveller.
  • If a supplier voluntarily approves a refund in an exceptional case, Atravelx passes on the recoverable amount in USDC under the applicable supplier and booking conditions.
Booking Acceptance
  • By confirming a booking and making payment, you accept the cancellation, refund, date-change, bundled-package and Travel Credit conditions in this policy.
  • Conditions stated in writing for an individual booking (quotation, invoice, voucher or booking confirmation) supplement this policy. Where a supplier's terms are stricter and were disclosed before payment, they apply to that service.
  • A booking is governed by the version of this policy shown on the package page on the booking date, unless a later version is more favourable to you or Atravelx agrees otherwise in writing.
  • For events beyond Atravelx's reasonable control (severe weather, natural disasters, epidemics, war, civil unrest, strikes, government restrictions, border or airport closures, supplier insolvency and similar), refunds, credits, postponements or alternatives depend on the affected supplier's policy and the amounts recoverable. Atravelx helps coordinate with the suppliers.
  • Nothing in this policy restricts any statutory right available to a consumer under applicable law.

Do we need two visas for France and Switzerland?

No. Both are in the Schengen area, so one visa covers the whole trip. The technical part is which consulate you apply to: the rule is the country where you spend the most nights, and if the nights are equal, it is your country of first entry. This itinerary is three nights in each, so with a Paris arrival, the application goes to France. Getting that wrong is one of the most common reasons a first application is rejected. We prepare the documentation, the hotel confirmations and the itinerary letter, but the visa fee and the VFS Global charges are not included in the package price, and the decision is the consulate's alone. Apply early and reconfirm the current requirements for your dates rather than relying on this page.

Why a train between Paris and Switzerland instead of a flight?

Because it is faster door-to-door, cheaper, and far less tiring. A direct TGV Lyria takes a little over three hours from the centre of Paris to Basel, and Lucerne is an hour on from there. A flight looks shorter on paper but adds two airport transfers, bag drop, security and a boarding wait, and usually eats most of the day. The train also has no baggage limit worth worrying about, and the seats are reserved and issued with your documents. The only reason to fly this leg is if you are extending the trip to somewhere a train does not reach.

Is three nights enough in Paris?

For a first visit on a two-country trip, yes - it gives you two full sightseeing days plus an arrival evening, which covers the Eiffel Tower, the Seine, the Louvre, Notre-Dame and Montmartre without rushing. It is not enough for Versailles and Disneyland as well; those are full days and each one replaces something. If you want either, tell us at enquiry and we will either add a Paris night or show you what comes out. What three nights does buy you is not packing in the middle of your Paris stay, which two nights always forces.

Is this a good honeymoon package?

It is built for couples, and the pacing is the reason: three nights in each city rather than two, one travel day rather than three, and evenings left free rather than programmed. What it is not is a luxury honeymoon: these are central 3-star hotels, the sightseeing is self-guided, and there is no private car or tour manager. If you want the 4-star version, a lake-view room in Lucerne, a Seine dinner cruise or private transfers, all of those are quoted as upgrades. Honeymoon touches at the hotels are requested rather than confirmed, and we say so plainly rather than letting you expect them.

What happens if the Eiffel Tower summit or Mt Titlis is closed?

Being straight with you: neither can be insured against, and no operator refunds for weather. The Eiffel Summit closes in high winds, and when it does, the second level stays open, and the tower adjusts your ticket at the entrance. Mt Titlis runs in most conditions, but the Cliff Walk closes in wind, and a clouded-in summit is simply a clouded-in summit. What we do is build the trip so you have room - your Titlis ticket is for the day rather than a time, so a grey morning can become a clear afternoon, and the two Paris days can be swapped between themselves. Go up early on both: mornings clear far more often than afternoons.

Is vegetarian or Indian food available in Paris and Lucerne?

Paris is easy on both counts. It has a large Indian and Sri Lankan quarter around La Chapelle and Indian restaurants across the city, and French menus always carry vegetarian options, even if the waiter needs it spelt out. Lucerne is thinner - there are one or two Indian restaurants, and Swiss kitchens handle vegetarian well with rosti, alpine macaroni, soups and salads, but you will not find the choice you get in Paris. Jain requirements need advance notice rather than being arranged on the day. Tell us at enquiry, and we will tell you honestly what each evening will look like.

How much walking is there, and will it suit our parents?

Paris is the demanding part, not Switzerland. The Louvre alone is a few kilometres of gallery floor, Montmartre is a hill, and the metro has stairs at a lot of stations with no lift. Lucerne is flat, and Mt Titlis is reached sitting down with level platforms at the top. If parents or older travellers are coming, tell us at enquiry: we take the Montmartre funicular rather than the steps, use the Carrousel entrance at the Louvre, and can add a private car for the Paris days. Nothing in the package requires a hike.

What should we pack?

Comfortable walking shoes before anything else - Paris is walked, not driven. For Mt Titlis you need a proper jacket, gloves and a cap in every month of the year: there is snow on the summit year round and the glacier cave sits below freezing, which catches people out in July. Paris itself needs a light layer even in summer because evenings cool down by the river. Carry a small umbrella; both cities get rain at short notice. You do not need hiking boots or technical gear for anything in this package.

What is the best time of year for this trip?

April to June and September to October work well because they are good in both countries at the same time, which is the constraint on a two-country trip. July and August give you the longest days but also the biggest crowds at the Eiffel Tower and the highest hotel rates in both cities. Winter is the cheapest by a clear margin, and Paris is at its best in December, but Swiss daylight is short, and the Lucerne wall towers are closed. The one window we avoid is the late autumn maintenance break on Mt. Titlis.

Do we need euros or Swiss francs?

Both, and they are not interchangeable. France uses the euro and Switzerland the Swiss franc, and although Swiss shops will take euros, they do it at a rate that costs you. Cards work almost everywhere in both countries, including on the metro and for train tickets, so a travel card plus a small amount of cash in each currency is the practical answer. Keep some coins in Paris for the public toilets and in Lucerne for lockers. Your city tourist tax is already included in the package, so you don't pay it at either hotel.

Are the hotels confirmed?

No - the properties shown are examples of the 3-star category and the central areas we book in, not a held booking. Your actual hotel is named in your quotation before you pay anything. Paris is the more variable of the two: rates swing a long way between a February Tuesday and a June weekend, and the room you get for a given category is smaller than the Indian equivalent. If the property we want is unavailable, we move you to a similar-tier alternative in the same area and tell you in advance rather than on arrival.

Can we add more cities, or extend the trip?

Yes, and this route extends more easily than most. Paris connects by direct train to Brussels, Amsterdam and London, and from Lucerne you are a few hours from Interlaken, Zermatt or Italy. The common additions are a second Swiss summit, a Versailles day, or two or three nights somewhere else entirely on the way home. Anything that changes the exit airport changes the flight booking too, so tell us at enquiry rather than after, and we will quote the whole reshaped trip rather than bolting days on.

Will our phones work, and should we buy a SIM?

Your Indian number will roam in both countries, but the packs are expensive, and Switzerland is often charged separately from the EU, which surprises people. The cheaper answer is an eSIM bought before you fly that covers Europe, including Switzerland - check that Switzerland is listed, because plenty of "Europe" plans leave it out. Hotel wifi is reliable in both cities, free wifi is common in Paris cafes, and Swiss trains carry wifi on the main routes. You will want data for maps and for the Titlis webcam on the morning of Day 6.
