Tour Overview

Children leaning over the railing of La Maison du Gruyère as a cheesemaker stirs an eight-hundred-litre copper vat with a wooden paddle, Cailler chocolate factory's fifteen-minute unlimited tasting room, Bern's live bears in the city centre park, and Chillon Castle's dungeon from Lord Byron's 1816 poem — family cultural Switzerland eight days.

An 8-day family Switzerland package from India built around cities, castles and museums rather than cable cars - two nights in Zurich, three in Bern and two in Lucerne, with a Swiss Travel Pass on which children under 16 travel free. Good in any month from April to October, and workable in winter too, because almost nothing on this route depends on a mountain being open.

Most Switzerland family itineraries are a chain of summit tickets, which is expensive and, for a child under about ten, largely the same view four times. This one goes the other way: the bear park in the middle of Bern, a medieval castle, a working cheese dairy and a chocolate factory in one day at Gruyeres, and Europe's largest transport museum in Lucerne with a planetarium inside it. Nothing here is more than ninety minutes by train from the last thing, and every day has something on it that a child would choose.

DAY 01

Arrive Zurich

Airport train - 10 min - Old Town and the lake
ZURICH
arrival in zurich city
ARRIVAL
The station sits directly beneath Zurich Airport arrivals - escalator down and ten minutes to the city, which is as easy as an arrival gets with children and luggage.
CHECK-IN
Two nights in a family room in central Zurich, walking distance from the station.
EVENING
The lake promenade at Bürkliplatz. Swans, ducks and space to run after a long flight, which is usually what children need on day one.
AFTERNOON
The Niederdorf lanes and the Lindenhof terrace, which gives you the whole Old Town in one view and costs nothing.
Hotels

Central Zurich Family Room

2 nights - Double bed for parents - Breakfast - Near the station

  • Stay Two nights in a family room - a double bed for parents plus beds for the children in the same room. Everyone together, no corridor between rooms.
  • Position Close to Zurich main station, which is where both museum days and the Bern train start from.
  • Larger families For five or more we request connecting rooms rather than one room. Availability varies by property and by date, so this is confirmed in writing on your quotation rather than assumed here.
Transfers

Zurich Airport to City

Direct train - 10 min

  • At the airport The station is directly under arrivals. Lifts take luggage trolleys down to the platform, which matters when you are travelling with children.
  • Frequency Trains to the main station every few minutes from early morning until past midnight.
  • Private car option If you would rather not board a train straight off a long flight with young children, a private transfer can be added. Quoted separately.
Activities

National Museum & Lindt (Included)

Swiss history - Nine-metre chocolate fountain - Tasting

  • Swiss National Museum Beside Zurich station in a building children read as a castle. Armour, coins and Swiss history, with hands-on sections. Covered by your pass.
  • Lindt Home of Chocolate The nine-metre chocolate fountain, the making-of exhibition and a tasting area at the end. Entry included in your package.
  • Booking Lindt entry is timed and we book your slot in advance, so there is no queue on the day.

Why this route works

Children travel free
The Swiss Family Card lets under-16s travel free alongside a parent holding a Swiss Travel Pass. On a culture route that covers trains, trams, boats and most museum entries, which is where the savings on this package come from.
Bern is the missing base
Most Indian itineraries skip the capital entirely. It has a UNESCO old town you can cross in twenty minutes, a bear park by the river, Einstein's flat and a Renzo Piano art museum - all reachable on foot with children.
One day, three things kids like
Gruyeres gives you a real medieval castle, a cheese dairy where you watch the wheels being made, and the Cailler chocolate factory with tasting at the end - all in a single day trip from Bern.

Full policy details

Cancellation Policy
  • 10 or more calendar days before departure: a 30% cancellation charge applies to the eligible package amount. Choose a 70% refund in USDC or 100% of the eligible amount as Atravelx Travel Credit.
  • Less than 10 calendar days before departure: 100% non-refundable. No refund or Travel Credit is ordinarily issued.
  • After travel commences, or no-show: non-refundable. No refund or Travel Credit is ordinarily available.
  • Days are counted as calendar days to the scheduled departure date, in UTC (Coordinated Universal Time). The timestamp on your written request fixes when Atravelx received it.
  • Cancellation requests must be made in writing through an authorised Atravelx channel: your concierge, info@atravelx.com or WhatsApp +91 92500 00511. A phone call alone does not cancel a booking until it is confirmed in writing.
  • Quote the booking reference, the lead traveller's name and the services affected. Atravelx may ask for identity or payment verification before acting on a request.
  • A reason is not needed to qualify under the 10-day window.
  • Cancelling some travellers, rooms, nights or services is a package amendment, not a cancellation. It does not qualify for the 10-day refund or credit on its own, and it can change the per-person price for the remaining travellers.
Atravelx Travel Credit
  • Travel Credit is issued as an Atravelx Credit Note for 100% of the eligible amount actually paid, denominated in USDC.
  • The 30% cancellation charge is waived when you choose Travel Credit instead of a refund.
  • Credit can be used towards any eligible service booked through Atravelx: holiday packages, stays, flights, transfers, sightseeing, car rental, visa assistance and other eligible services.
  • Travel Credit is non-cash. It cannot be withdrawn, exchanged for cryptocurrency or fiat currency, or transferred to another person, unless Atravelx agrees in writing.
  • The validity period and expiry date are stated on the Credit Note.
  • Prices at the time of the new booking apply. Travel Credit does not hold the same hotel, room, destination, dates, itinerary, supplier, activity, package or price.
  • If the new booking costs more, you pay the difference in USDC. If it costs less, the balance stays on the Credit Note under its terms.
  • Once you choose Travel Credit, the choice is final. It is not later converted into a refund.
Date Change Policy
  • Request date changes 10 or more calendar days before the scheduled departure date.
  • A date change is not guaranteed. It depends on hotel, transfer and activity availability, supplier approval, revised room rates, seasonal pricing, blackout dates, peak-season supplements, transport costs, fare differences, supplier amendment charges and revised itinerary costs.
  • If the revised package costs more, you pay the difference in USDC. Supplier amendment or date-change charges may also apply.
  • A date change is confirmed only when Atravelx confirms the revised arrangements in writing.
  • Requests made less than 10 calendar days before departure depend on supplier approval and cannot be guaranteed.
  • A postponement or date change is not a cancellation. It does not by itself create a refund or Travel Credit entitlement.
Bundled Holiday Packages
  • Atravelx holiday packages are booked and priced as bundled travel arrangements made up of several interconnected services.
  • Individual components of a confirmed package cannot ordinarily be cancelled separately.
  • Removing a service does not automatically entitle you to a proportionate refund or Travel Credit.
  • Any request to remove, replace or modify a component is treated as a package amendment, subject to supplier approval, availability, revised pricing, amounts recoverable and applicable charges.
  • A value shown against an individual service does not mean it was separately contracted or can be independently cancelled.
Visa & Travel Documentation
  • Travellers are responsible for a valid passport, the right visa, transit visas, entry permits, immigration documents, health documentation and any other paperwork required by the destination or a transit country.
  • Visa decisions are made solely by the relevant government, embassy, consulate or immigration authority. Atravelx does not guarantee approval, processing time or appointment availability.
  • A visa refusal, delay or failure to obtain a visa does not override the cancellation conditions unless Atravelx confirms otherwise in writing.
  • Government, embassy, visa application centre, biometric, courier and processing fees may be non-refundable once paid or submitted.
Refund Processing & Timeline
  • Atravelx acknowledges a cancellation request within 2 working days. Acknowledgement confirms receipt, not eligibility or amount. After reviewing the booking, Atravelx confirms in writing which services are cancelled, the refundable and non-refundable components, the deductions and the refund amount.
  • Approved refunds are processed within 45 working days from the date Atravelx confirms in writing that the refund is approved.
  • The 45 days do not run from the booking date, the date you first asked to cancel, or the departure date.
  • Working days exclude Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays in the United States and India.
  • Refunds are calculated and paid in USDC. The refund is the eligible package amount in USDC as shown on your invoice, less the cancellation charge and any supplier deductions.
  • If you paid in another cryptocurrency, the refund is still the USDC value of the eligible amount at the time of payment, not the number of coins you sent. Atravelx is not liable for changes in the market value of any coin between payment and refund.
  • Refunds are sent to the wallet address the payment came from, on the same network. If that is not possible, you may nominate another wallet, which Atravelx verifies in writing before sending. Atravelx is not responsible for funds sent to a wallet address you supplied incorrectly.
  • If you paid by card or bank transfer through an Atravelx payment partner, the refund goes back to that payment method where the partner supports it. Otherwise another method is agreed in writing.
  • Blockchain confirmations, payment partners, card issuers and banks may add time before the funds show in your wallet or account.
  • Where Atravelx cancels a confirmed booking for reasons within its reasonable control, all amounts received for the cancelled services are refunded in full, initiated within 7 working days. An alternative itinerary or Travel Credit may be offered, but you are not required to accept it instead of the refund.
  • An approved refund is not replaced with Travel Credit unless you expressly agree, or the supplier itself provides only a credit or voucher under conditions disclosed before booking.
Supplier-Specific & Non-Refundable Services
  • Certain services carry their own cancellation, refund or amendment terms: airline tickets, visa fees, embassy, consulate and visa-centre charges, travel insurance, rail tickets and passes, cruise and ferry bookings, event, concert, sports and attraction tickets, special-event bookings, non-refundable hotel rates, supplier deposits and any service identified as non-refundable.
  • Where supplier-specific conditions were communicated in the quotation, invoice, voucher, booking confirmation or service conditions before payment, those conditions apply to that service.
  • Blockchain network fees paid when you sent your payment are not part of the package amount and are not refundable.
No-Show, Unused & Partially Used Services
  • No refund or Travel Credit is ordinarily provided for: no-shows, cancellation after travel has commenced, voluntarily unused services, partly completed holidays, missed hotel nights, missed transfers, missed activities or sightseeing, missed trains or other transport, traveller delays, failure to report at the required time, services missed because of documentation issues, or services missed for reasons attributable to the traveller.
  • If a supplier voluntarily approves a refund in an exceptional case, Atravelx passes on the recoverable amount in USDC under the applicable supplier and booking conditions.
Booking Acceptance
  • By confirming a booking and making payment, you accept the cancellation, refund, date-change, bundled-package and Travel Credit conditions in this policy.
  • Conditions stated in writing for an individual booking (quotation, invoice, voucher or booking confirmation) supplement this policy. Where a supplier's terms are stricter and were disclosed before payment, they apply to that service.
  • A booking is governed by the version of this policy shown on the package page on the booking date, unless a later version is more favourable to you or Atravelx agrees otherwise in writing.
  • For events beyond Atravelx's reasonable control (severe weather, natural disasters, epidemics, war, civil unrest, strikes, government restrictions, border or airport closures, supplier insolvency and similar), refunds, credits, postponements or alternatives depend on the affected supplier's policy and the amounts recoverable. Atravelx helps coordinate with the suppliers.
  • Nothing in this policy restricts any statutory right available to a consumer under applicable law.

Frequently asked questions

This package has no mountains. Is that a mistake?

No, it is the whole design. Most Switzerland family itineraries are a chain of summit tickets, which is the single most expensive part of any Swiss trip and, for a child under about ten, largely the same view several times over. This route spends that money on things children engage with instead - a bear park, a castle, two chocolate factories and Europe's largest transport museum. If your family specifically wants snow and cable cars, say so and we will either add a summit day from Lucerne as a supplement or quote our Family Discovery package, which is built around Jungfraujoch and Titlis.

Do children really travel free?

Under 16, yes, on the Swiss Family Card, which is issued free with a parent's Swiss Travel Pass and covers trains, trams, buses and lake steamers. On this route, that is every journey the family makes. Children aged 16 and over need their own pass, at a youth rate, and that is priced into your quotation. Museum and attraction entries are separate from the pass, and child rates for those are also already built in.

What ages does this itinerary suit?

Roughly six to fifteen is the sweet spot. Younger than that, the museums are less effective but the bear park, the chocolate factories and the boats still work, and no day involves long walking. Older teenagers get more out of Einstein House and Paul Klee than younger children do. What makes it work across ages is that nothing is more than ninety minutes by train and every day has one outdoor element in it.

Why Bern? Most Switzerland packages skip it.

Which is exactly why it is worth three nights. Bern is the capital, a UNESCO Old Town small enough to cross on foot with children, with six kilometres of covered arcades that make a rainy afternoon a non-event. The bear park is free, and by the river, the clock tower puts on a show every hour; Einstein's flat is a twenty-minute visit, and the Gurten funicular is on your pass. It is also the right base for Gruyères, which is the best single day of this trip.

Can we really do the castle, the dairy and the chocolate factory in one day?

Yes, on an early start - the dairy and the castle are in the same village, and Broc is ten minutes further by train. If you leave Bern after about ten in the morning, it gets tight, and with younger children we would suggest dropping the cheese dairy rather than rushing all three. The castle and Maison Cailler are the two that children talk about afterwards.

Will we all be in one room?

For four, usually yes - a family room with a double bed for parents and beds for the children. For five or more, or where a property has no family room for your dates, we request connecting rooms instead. Family rooms are the scarcest category in Swiss city hotels, especially in summer, so what you get is confirmed in writing on your quotation before you pay rather than assumed. Cots and extra beds are requested with the booking and any charge is shown up front.

What will food cost with children?

Breakfast is covered on all seven mornings, which handles the meal that is hardest to organise with children. Beyond that, eating out in Switzerland is expensive, but Coop and Migros supermarkets have hot counters and picnic food at a fraction of restaurant prices, and all three cities have parks and lakeside benches. Many Swiss museums, including the Transport Museum, allow you to bring your own food. Families who mix supermarket lunches with one sit-down meal a day spend far less than families who do not.

When is the best time to travel?

This route is unusually flexible because almost nothing depends on a mountain being open. April to October is ideal, with long evenings and the lake steamers on a full schedule. July and August work but are the most expensive, and family rooms are hardest to find then. Winter is genuinely viable - the museums, the arcades, the chocolate factories and the castle are all indoors or covered - and prices are considerably lower. Tell us your school holiday dates, and we will tell you honestly what they will cost.

Is it manageable with a pram or stroller?

Mostly yes. Swiss trains, trams and buses are step-free with dedicated pram spaces; station lifts are reliable, and the museums are all accessible. The exceptions are Bern's Old Town, which is cobbled, and Gruyeres castle, which is medieval and has stairs and ramparts a pram cannot go up. For those two, we would suggest a carrier for a small child. Tell us the age at enquiry, and we will flag anything specific.

What about Schengen visas for the whole family?

Every family member needs one, children included, and minors need additional documents: a birth certificate, a school letter, and consent letters if a child is travelling with only one parent. We provide the checklist and assistance for the full application. Apply eight to ten weeks ahead for family travel; summer VFS slots go quickly, and a family booking has more paperwork than a single one. Fees and VFS charges are excluded, and the consulate makes the final approval decision.
