DAY 01

Arrive Tokyo, Senso-ji and Asakusa

Airport to hotel - Senso-ji temple - Nakamise street
TOKYO
Senso ji s Kaminarimon gate with the giant red lantern at dusk
ARRIVAL
Land at Narita or Haneda airport. A pre-arranged private transfer takes you to the hotel - about 70 minutes from Narita, 40 from Haneda, depending on traffic.
CHECK-IN
Your Shinjuku or Ikebukuro 3-star hotel is on the western Yamanote loop - the busiest and best-connected part of the city, with JR and metro lines in every direction.
EVENING
Senso-ji: Tokyo's oldest Buddhist temple is a short metro ride east. Walk the Nakamise shopping lane to the main hall - the lanterns and the pagoda are lit after dark and the crowds thin out by seven.
Hotels

Tokyo, 3-Star, Shinjuku or Ikebukuro

3 nights - Breakfast - central Yamanote loop

  • Three nights, one base A 3-star double room with a double bed and breakfast, in the Shinjuku or Ikebukuro area. At this price point the hotel is central - the Yamanote loop's western hub, with JR, metro and private lines in every direction. Rooms are clean and compact, about twelve to eighteen square metres, which is standard for Tokyo.
  • Why this area Shinjuku and Ikebukuro are the most connected stations in Tokyo. Shibuya is two stops south, Senso-ji is twenty minutes east, and the Shinkansen at Tokyo Station is fifteen minutes on the Chuo Line. The hotel area has restaurants, convenience stores and department stores on every block.
  • Meals Breakfast each morning. No lunch or dinner is included on any night.
Transfers

Shinkansen and JR Rail - No JR Pass

Point-to-point tickets, cheaper than the JR Pass on this route

  • Tokyo to Odawara, Shinkansen Kodama About thirty-five minutes, reserved seat. This leg gets you to the Hakone gateway.
  • Odawara to Kyoto, Shinkansen Hikari About two hours, reserved seat. The main bullet-train experience of the trip - Mt Fuji may be visible on a clear day.
  • Kyoto to Osaka, JR Special Rapid About thirty minutes, no reservation needed. A regular commuter express - fast, frequent and cheap.
  • Why no JR Pass We priced the seven-day nationwide JR Pass against every JR leg in this trip. The pass costs more than triple what the individual tickets add up to, because this route uses two short Shinkansen rides and a handful of local trains. The Hakone Free Pass is Odakyu (not JR) so the JR Pass would not cover it anyway. We buy point-to-point and the saving stays in your pocket.
  • Local transit A Suica or Pasmo IC card covers every metro, bus and JR local train across all four cities. Top it up at any station machine.
Activities

Hakone Free Pass Loop (Included)

Ropeway, Owakudani, Lake Ashi pirate ship, Mt Fuji views

  • What is included The two-day Hakone Free Pass from Odawara covering the complete loop - Tozan switchback railway up the mountain, cable car to Owakudani, ropeway over the volcanic valley, pirate ship across Lake Ashi, and all Hakone buses. Unlimited rides for two days.
  • Highlights Owakudani's steaming sulphur vents with Mt Fuji behind, the pirate ship cruise across the lake, and Hakone Shrine's torii gate at the water's edge. The loop takes about five hours at a comfortable pace.

DAY 02

Tokyo - Meiji Shrine, Harajuku, Shibuya Sky

Forest shrine - backstreet fashion - rooftop 229 metres up
TOKYO
Shibuya Crossing at the scramble
MEIJI JINGU
Walk the gravel path through the forest to the Shinto shrine dedicated to Emperor Meiji. Free, quiet in the morning, and the towering torii gate at the entrance sets the tone for the walk.
HARAJUKU AND TAKESHITA STREET
Exit the shrine forest and you are in Harajuku - two different Tokyos in five minutes. The backstreets are free to walk and full of shops, crepe stalls and people-watching.
SHIBUYA CROSSING AND SHIBUYA SKY
Cross the world's busiest pedestrian scramble, then take the elevator to Shibuya Sky - an open-air observation deck at 229 metres with the city grid laid out below. Best at sunset when the lights come on.
Hotels

Hakone, 3-Star, near Hakone-Yumoto

1 night - Breakfast - hot-spring town

  • One night, near the station A 3-star double room near Hakone-Yumoto or along the Tozan line. Hakone hotels at this level often have an onsen (hot-spring bath) on site or nearby - we try to book one with access. Rooms are slightly larger than Tokyo, typically fifteen to twenty square metres.
  • Why this area Hakone-Yumoto is the gateway to the Hakone loop - the Tozan railway, ropeway and bus network all start here or pass through. Staying in the hot-spring town means you can soak in the evening after the day's sightseeing and catch the first transport up the mountain the next morning.
  • Meals Breakfast. No dinner included.
Transfers

Hakone Free Pass - 2-Day Odakyu Pass

Ropeway, pirate ship, Tozan railway, buses - all covered

  • What it covers The two-day Hakone Free Pass from Odawara covers the Hakone Tozan switchback railway, the Hakone Ropeway cable car, the Lake Ashi pirate ship cruise, all Hakone Tozan buses and the cable car segment from Sounzan to Owakudani. Unlimited rides for two calendar days.
  • Why Odakyu, not JR The Hakone Free Pass is an Odakyu Railway product, not JR. A JR Pass would not cover any of these legs. The pass is activated at Odawara Station and costs about Rs 3,720 per person - far cheaper than buying each leg separately.
Activities

Shibuya Sky Observation Deck (Included)

Open-air rooftop at 229 metres, best at sunset

  • What is include A timed-entry ticket to Shibuya Sky, the open-air observation deck on top of Shibuya Scramble Square, 229 metres above the city. The outdoor rooftop section is the draw - lying on the mirrored floor with the sky above and the city grid below.
  • Timing We pre-book a late-afternoon slot so you catch the sunset transition from daylight to neon. The view runs from Mt Fuji on clear days to Tokyo Tower and the Rainbow Bridge.

The immersive digital art museum in Azabudai Hills - rooms of light, water and projection that shift and follow you. Book a morning timed slot and spend about two hours inside. Photography is part of the experience.
IMPERIAL PALACE EAST GARDENS
The former inner grounds of Edo Castle, now a public park with stone walls, moats and wide lawns. Free to enter, open most days, and a calm contrast to the digital overload of the morning.
AKIHABARA
Tokyo's electronics and anime district. Walk through the multi-storey arcades, browse the gadget shops and eat at a themed cafe if the mood takes you. Free to walk and explore.
Hotels

Kyoto, 3-Star, near Kyoto Station

2 nights - Breakfast - rail hub

  • Two nights, near the station A 3-star double room near Kyoto Station. The station is the rail hub for Fushimi Inari (one stop on the JR Nara Line), Arashiyama (fifteen minutes on the JR Sagano Line) and the bus network to the northern temples like Kinkaku-ji.

  • Meals Breakfast each morning. No dinner on any night.
Transfers

Arrival Tokyo, Departure Osaka (Open Jaw)

  • Depart Osaka Haruka Express from Tennoji or Shin-Osaka to Kansai International Airport (KIX), about fifty minutes. Included.

DAY 04

Tokyo to Hakone - ropeway, Owakudani, Lake Ashi

Train to Hakone - volcanic valley - pirate ship - Mt Fuji views
HAKONE
Hakone ropeway cable car over Owakudani with sulphur vents below

HAKONE ROPEWAY AND OWAKUDANI
The cable car crosses the volcanic valley - sulphur vents steaming below, and on a clear day Mt Fuji fills the frame behind you. At Owakudani station, eat the black eggs boiled in the hot springs. They say each one adds seven years to your life.
LAKE ASHI PIRATE SHIP
Descend from the ropeway to Togendai and board the replica galleon across Lake Ashi. The cruise takes about forty minutes - Mt Fuji appears over the lake on clear mornings and the torii gate of Hakone Shrine stands at the water's edge.
Hotels

Osaka, 3-Star, Namba or Shinsaibashi

  • Location Namba station connects to the Nankai line (for the airport) and the metro. Dotonbori and Shinsekai are both within walking distance, and Osaka Castle is fifteen minutes by metro.

  • Meals Breakfast each morning. No dinner on any night - Osaka's street food is the reason you will not miss it.
Activities

Kyoto Temples, Nijo Castle and Arashiyama (Included)

Visual journey

Why this route works

Four cities, one direction, no wasted miles
Tokyo to Hakone is ninety minutes by local train, Hakone to Kyoto is about two hours on the Shinkansen from Odawara, and Kyoto to Osaka is thirty minutes on a JR express. Every leg moves west, nothing doubles back, and the open-jaw flight routing (fly into Tokyo, out of Osaka) means no return Shinkansen and no wasted day.
Hakone earns its extra night
The Hakone Free Pass covers the full volcanic loop - cable car over the sulphur vents of Owakudani, the pirate ship across Lake Ashi with Mt Fuji behind it, and the forest railway back. Most day-trippers rush it and miss the evening onsen atmosphere. The overnight stay lets you do the loop at a human pace and soak in the hot-spring town after dark.
No rail pass, because it loses money on this route
We priced the seven-day JR Pass against every rail leg in this trip. The pass costs more than triple what the individual tickets add up to - one Shinkansen ride and a handful of local trains is not enough to fill a pass built for criss-crossing the country. The Hakone Free Pass is Odakyu, not JR, so it would not be covered anyway. We buy point-to-point and pass the saving on.

Full policy details

Cancellation Policy
  • 10 or more calendar days before departure: a 30% cancellation charge applies to the eligible package amount. Choose a 70% refund in USDC or 100% of the eligible amount as Atravelx Travel Credit.
  • Less than 10 calendar days before departure: 100% non-refundable. No refund or Travel Credit is ordinarily issued.
  • After travel commences, or no-show: non-refundable. No refund or Travel Credit is ordinarily available.
  • Days are counted as calendar days to the scheduled departure date, in UTC (Coordinated Universal Time). The timestamp on your written request fixes when Atravelx received it.
  • Cancellation requests must be made in writing through an authorised Atravelx channel: your concierge, info@atravelx.com or WhatsApp +91 92500 00511. A phone call alone does not cancel a booking until it is confirmed in writing.
  • Quote the booking reference, the lead traveller's name and the services affected. Atravelx may ask for identity or payment verification before acting on a request.
  • A reason is not needed to qualify under the 10-day window.
  • Cancelling some travellers, rooms, nights or services is a package amendment, not a cancellation. It does not qualify for the 10-day refund or credit on its own, and it can change the per-person price for the remaining travellers.
Atravelx Travel Credit
  • Travel Credit is issued as an Atravelx Credit Note for 100% of the eligible amount actually paid, denominated in USDC.
  • The 30% cancellation charge is waived when you choose Travel Credit instead of a refund.
  • Credit can be used towards any eligible service booked through Atravelx: holiday packages, stays, flights, transfers, sightseeing, car rental, visa assistance and other eligible services.
  • Travel Credit is non-cash. It cannot be withdrawn, exchanged for cryptocurrency or fiat currency, or transferred to another person, unless Atravelx agrees in writing.
  • The validity period and expiry date are stated on the Credit Note.
  • Prices at the time of the new booking apply. Travel Credit does not hold the same hotel, room, destination, dates, itinerary, supplier, activity, package or price.
  • If the new booking costs more, you pay the difference in USDC. If it costs less, the balance stays on the Credit Note under its terms.
  • Once you choose Travel Credit, the choice is final. It is not later converted into a refund.
Date Change Policy
  • Request date changes 10 or more calendar days before the scheduled departure date.
  • A date change is not guaranteed. It depends on hotel, transfer and activity availability, supplier approval, revised room rates, seasonal pricing, blackout dates, peak-season supplements, transport costs, fare differences, supplier amendment charges and revised itinerary costs.
  • If the revised package costs more, you pay the difference in USDC. Supplier amendment or date-change charges may also apply.
  • A date change is confirmed only when Atravelx confirms the revised arrangements in writing.
  • Requests made less than 10 calendar days before departure depend on supplier approval and cannot be guaranteed.
  • A postponement or date change is not a cancellation. It does not by itself create a refund or Travel Credit entitlement.
Bundled Holiday Packages
  • Atravelx holiday packages are booked and priced as bundled travel arrangements made up of several interconnected services.
  • Individual components of a confirmed package cannot ordinarily be cancelled separately.
  • Removing a service does not automatically entitle you to a proportionate refund or Travel Credit.
  • Any request to remove, replace or modify a component is treated as a package amendment, subject to supplier approval, availability, revised pricing, amounts recoverable and applicable charges.
  • A value shown against an individual service does not mean it was separately contracted or can be independently cancelled.
Visa & Travel Documentation
  • Travellers are responsible for a valid passport, the right visa, transit visas, entry permits, immigration documents, health documentation and any other paperwork required by the destination or a transit country.
  • Visa decisions are made solely by the relevant government, embassy, consulate or immigration authority. Atravelx does not guarantee approval, processing time or appointment availability.
  • A visa refusal, delay or failure to obtain a visa does not override the cancellation conditions unless Atravelx confirms otherwise in writing.
  • Government, embassy, visa application centre, biometric, courier and processing fees may be non-refundable once paid or submitted.
Refund Processing & Timeline
  • Atravelx acknowledges a cancellation request within 2 working days. Acknowledgement confirms receipt, not eligibility or amount. After reviewing the booking, Atravelx confirms in writing which services are cancelled, the refundable and non-refundable components, the deductions and the refund amount.
  • Approved refunds are processed within 45 working days from the date Atravelx confirms in writing that the refund is approved.
  • The 45 days do not run from the booking date, the date you first asked to cancel, or the departure date.
  • Working days exclude Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays in the United States and India.
  • Refunds are calculated and paid in USDC. The refund is the eligible package amount in USDC as shown on your invoice, less the cancellation charge and any supplier deductions.
  • If you paid in another cryptocurrency, the refund is still the USDC value of the eligible amount at the time of payment, not the number of coins you sent. Atravelx is not liable for changes in the market value of any coin between payment and refund.
  • Refunds are sent to the wallet address the payment came from, on the same network. If that is not possible, you may nominate another wallet, which Atravelx verifies in writing before sending. Atravelx is not responsible for funds sent to a wallet address you supplied incorrectly.
  • If you paid by card or bank transfer through an Atravelx payment partner, the refund goes back to that payment method where the partner supports it. Otherwise another method is agreed in writing.
  • Blockchain confirmations, payment partners, card issuers and banks may add time before the funds show in your wallet or account.
  • Where Atravelx cancels a confirmed booking for reasons within its reasonable control, all amounts received for the cancelled services are refunded in full, initiated within 7 working days. An alternative itinerary or Travel Credit may be offered, but you are not required to accept it instead of the refund.
  • An approved refund is not replaced with Travel Credit unless you expressly agree, or the supplier itself provides only a credit or voucher under conditions disclosed before booking.
Supplier-Specific & Non-Refundable Services
  • Certain services carry their own cancellation, refund or amendment terms: airline tickets, visa fees, embassy, consulate and visa-centre charges, travel insurance, rail tickets and passes, cruise and ferry bookings, event, concert, sports and attraction tickets, special-event bookings, non-refundable hotel rates, supplier deposits and any service identified as non-refundable.
  • Where supplier-specific conditions were communicated in the quotation, invoice, voucher, booking confirmation or service conditions before payment, those conditions apply to that service.
  • Blockchain network fees paid when you sent your payment are not part of the package amount and are not refundable.
No-Show, Unused & Partially Used Services
  • No refund or Travel Credit is ordinarily provided for: no-shows, cancellation after travel has commenced, voluntarily unused services, partly completed holidays, missed hotel nights, missed transfers, missed activities or sightseeing, missed trains or other transport, traveller delays, failure to report at the required time, services missed because of documentation issues, or services missed for reasons attributable to the traveller.
  • If a supplier voluntarily approves a refund in an exceptional case, Atravelx passes on the recoverable amount in USDC under the applicable supplier and booking conditions.
Booking Acceptance
  • By confirming a booking and making payment, you accept the cancellation, refund, date-change, bundled-package and Travel Credit conditions in this policy.
  • Conditions stated in writing for an individual booking (quotation, invoice, voucher or booking confirmation) supplement this policy. Where a supplier's terms are stricter and were disclosed before payment, they apply to that service.
  • A booking is governed by the version of this policy shown on the package page on the booking date, unless a later version is more favourable to you or Atravelx agrees otherwise in writing.
  • For events beyond Atravelx's reasonable control (severe weather, natural disasters, epidemics, war, civil unrest, strikes, government restrictions, border or airport closures, supplier insolvency and similar), refunds, credits, postponements or alternatives depend on the affected supplier's policy and the amounts recoverable. Atravelx helps coordinate with the suppliers.
  • Nothing in this policy restricts any statutory right available to a consumer under applicable law.

Frequently asked questions

What is included in this Japan Golden Route?
The confirmed accommodation, breakfast, land transport, transfers and sightseeing specifically listed in the final itinerary. Anything not listed is excluded.
Can this package be customised for travellers from Australia?
Yes. Atravelq can change nights, hotels, rooms, meals, transfers and experiences for travellers based in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth after dates and budget are shared.
When should this package be booked?
The intended sale window is Jan-Feb, Jun or Sep; avoid cherry blossom, Golden Week and New Year. Booking four to six months ahead generally gives a better chance of accessing the advertised inventory, but no saving is guaranteed until suppliers confirm it.
Do Indian passport holders need a visa for Japan?

Yes. Indian passport holders need a Japan tourist visa, applied for through VFS Global or the Japanese embassy; it is not a Schengen visa, and it is not a visa on arrival. We prepare and guide the documentation. The visa fee itself is not in the package price - we keep it out of the headline and confirm it separately. Japan visa processing typically takes five to seven working days through VFS, so start early. Re-confirm the requirements before you apply, as processing rules can change.

Are flights included in this package?

No. This is a land package - hotels, rail, sightseeing tickets and transfers only. You book your international flights separately, or ask us to quote them for your city and dates. The routing is open-jaw: fly into Tokyo (Narita or Haneda) and out of Osaka (Kansai International, KIX). This avoids a return Shinkansen and saves about three hours and a wasted half-day.

Should we buy a JR Pass for this trip?

No - and we checked. The seven-day nationwide JR Pass costs more than triple what the individual tickets for this route add up to. This trip uses two short Shinkansen rides (Tokyo to Odawara and Odawara to Kyoto) and a handful of local JR trains, which is not enough to fill a pass built for criss-crossing the country. The Hakone Free Pass is Odakyu, not JR, so a JR Pass would not cover it anyway. We buy point-to-point and include every ticket. If you add more cities or backtrack, the answer can change - ask us to re-run it.

What exactly does the Hakone Free Pass cover?

The two-day Hakone Free Pass from Odawara covers the Hakone Tozan switchback railway, the cable car from Gora to Sounzan, the Hakone Ropeway over Owakudani, the pirate ship cruise across Lake Ashi, and all Hakone Tozan buses - unlimited rides for two calendar days. It does not cover the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Odawara (that is a separate included ticket). The pass is an Odakyu Railway product, activated at Odawara Station, and it is the most efficient way to do the full volcanic loop.

Will we actually see Mt Fuji from Hakone?

It depends on the weather. Fuji is visible from the Hakone ropeway and from the pirate ship on Lake Ashi on clear days - roughly sixty to seventy per cent of mornings between October and April, and less often in summer when haze builds. Early morning gives the best odds. Even without Fuji, the Owakudani volcanic landscape is dramatic on its own, and the pirate ship cruise is scenic regardless. We schedule the ropeway for the morning to maximise your chances.

Is any dinner included?

No. Daily breakfast only - no lunch and no dinner on any day, and this is the same across every Atravelq package. Japan has exceptional food at every price point, from convenience-store onigiri to ramen counters to Osaka's street stalls, and you will eat better choosing your own than following a set menu. Dotonbori in Osaka alone has more food options than most Indian cities have restaurants.

How is this different from your Family and Theme Parks Japan package?

Both cover Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka, but they are different products for different travellers. The Family package includes Tokyo Disneyland and Universal Studios Japan, adds teamLab Planets, and is built for families with children - eight days, three cities, no Hakone. This Golden Route package skips the theme parks, adds Hakone with a one-night stay and the full ropeway-pirate-ship loop, includes Shibuya Sky, teamLab Borderless and Nijo Castle, and is built for first-timers, couples and culture seekers - nine days, four cities. If your trip is about the parks, choose the Family package. If it is about the scenery, temples and the classic route, this is the one.

When is the best time to take this trip?

The trip runs year-round. The best value is January to February and June to September, when hotel rates are lowest and crowds are lighter. Cherry blossom season (late March to mid-April) is peak for Kyoto - the temples and the Philosopher's Path are covered in pink, but hotels fill fast, and rates spike. Autumn foliage (October to November) is equally busy. Avoid Golden Week (late April to early May) and Obon (mid-August) - trains are full, everything is booked, and rates jump. We tell you honestly what your chosen dates look like.

Is it easy to find vegetarian and Jain food in Japan?

Easier than it used to be, but it takes a little planning. Tokyo and Osaka have dedicated vegetarian and Indian restaurants - Shinjuku, Ikebukuro, and the Namba area each have several. Convenience stores carry vegetarian onigiri, edamame, and inari sushi. Strictly Jain food (no onion, no garlic, no root vegetables) is harder, and we recommend carrying a bilingual Jain food card - we can provide one. Tell us your dietary needs at enquiry, and we will send a restaurant shortlist for each city.

How much walking is involved, and is this trip suitable for older travellers?

Most days involve moderate walking on flat, paved surfaces - Kyoto temples, Osaka streets, Tokyo shopping districts. Fushimi Inari climbs only as far as you choose (the first loop is about thirty minutes and mostly paved). The Hakone ropeway and pirate ship are seated, not walking. Nijo Castle is flat. The only steep section is the approach lane to Kiyomizu-dera (not included in this package). All intercity travel is by train with reserved seats. If anyone has mobility limits, we adjust the pacing - tell us at enquiry.

Can we add theme parks to this trip?

Yes. Tokyo Disneyland or DisneySea adds to the Tokyo days (we include the ticket and an extra hotel night if needed). Universal Studios Japan adds to the Osaka days. Both are optional upgrades priced in your quotation. If you want both parks and Golden Route sightseeing, we can extend the trip to 11 or 12 days and build a combined itinerary.

Are the hotels confirmed and named?

No - the stay is shown as the 3-star category and the area we book in (Shinjuku or Ikebukuro in Tokyo, Hakone-Yumoto area, near Kyoto Station, Namba or Shinsaibashi in Osaka), not a held booking. Your actual hotel is named in your quotation before you pay anything. Japanese 3-star hotels at this level are consistently clean and well-run. If the property we want is unavailable, we book a similar-tier alternative in the same area and tell you before you pay.

Do we need to figure out the trains ourselves?

No. We pre-book every Shinkansen reserved seat, activate the Hakone Free Pass at Odawara and load your Suica IC card. The IC card is a tap-and-go card that works on every train, metro, bus and convenience store across all four cities - top it up at any station machine. Japan's rail system is clean, punctual and well-signed in English. We give you a step-by-step transport guide with station names, platform numbers and which train to take for every leg.

What is the Hakone Ropeway, and is it safe during volcanic activity?

The Hakone Ropeway is a cable car that crosses the Owakudani volcanic valley - steaming sulphur vents below, mountains on both sides. It runs daily in normal conditions. During periods of elevated volcanic activity (the last significant one was in 2015), the ropeway closes temporarily, and a substitute bus runs the same route. This is a safety measure and is rare. The volcanic activity at Owakudani is monitored continuously. We check conditions before your trip and adjust the route if needed.

Will our phones work in Japan - SIM and data?

Yes. This package includes a pocket WiFi device for the full nine days - a small battery-powered router that fits in your pocket and gives you mobile data anywhere. Hotel WiFi is standard at every property. If you prefer a local SIM or eSIM instead of the pocket WiFi, we can arrange that. Data is essential for maps, train times and translation apps.

What is the money situation - cash, cards, tipping?

The currency is the Japanese yen. IC cards and credit cards work on trains, in convenience stores and in most shops and restaurants. Cash is still needed at some smaller temples, street food stalls and traditional shops - ATMs at 7-Eleven and Japan Post accept international cards. Tipping is not expected and is not practised in Japan, at restaurants, hotels, or in taxis. Do not leave money on the table.

What should we pack for this trip?

Comfortable walking shoes are the most important item - you will walk eight to twelve thousand steps on most days. Layers work best: Japan's weather ranges from cold and dry in winter to hot and humid in summer, and temperatures can vary between Tokyo and Hakone on the same day. Temples require quiet behaviour and covered shoulders; shoes come off at some. Bring a small towel - many Japanese restrooms do not provide paper towels. For teamLab Borderless, wear dark clothes for the best photos.

Can we extend this trip or change the route?

Easily. A Nara day trip (deer park and the giant Buddha) slots into the Kyoto days. Extra nights in any city just extend the stay. A Hiroshima and Miyajima extension adds two to three days and a longer Shinkansen ride (and then the JR Pass does make sense - we re-run the numbers). An extra Hakone night deepens the onsen experience. Tell us at enquiry what you want to change, and we build one revised quotation.

Is this trip suitable for a honeymoon or a couple's trip?

Very much so. The Hakone overnight with a hot-spring soak, Kyoto's lantern-lit Gion district at dusk, and the Arashiyama bamboo grove in the late afternoon light are all naturally romantic settings. The pace is comfortable, Day 7 is deliberately light, and the variety across four cities keeps the trip interesting without being exhausting. If you want to upgrade to a ryokan (traditional Japanese inn) for the Hakone night or add a private tea ceremony in Kyoto, both are available as upgrades.
